Code P2436 Dodge Description

The Secondary Air Injection (AIR) System aids in the reduction of hydrocarbon exhaust emissions during a cold start-up. This occurs when the start-up engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 5-50°C (41-122°F), and the intake air temperature (IAT) is between 5-60°C (41-140°F). The AIR pump operates 5-60 seconds after start-up.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) activates the AIR system by simultaneously supplying grounds to the AIR pump and the AIR valve relays. This action closes the relays' internal contacts. The AIR pump and the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly are in turn energized, the pump runs and the control/shut-off valve opens.
The AIR pump sends pressurized fresh air into the pipes/hoses through the open control/shut-off valve, and into the exhaust manifold. The extra air accelerates the catalyst operation, helping it to reach operating temperature faster. The AIR pump remains ON for a short period of time after the control/shut-off valve is commanded OFF. When the AIR pump is commanded OFF it will not run or be activated until the next vehicle start. When the AIR system is inactive, the closed AIR control/shut-off valve prevents air/exhaust flow in either direction.
The AIR system pressure sensor is used to monitor pressure at the AIR control solenoid valve/pressure sensor assembly inlet during the commanded ON/OFF states.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2436 Dodge Code

What does the OBDII code P2436 mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P2436 indicates an issue with the Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit on Bank 2, specifically that the sensor is operating out of its expected range or performance parameters.

What are the common symptoms of code P2436 in a Dodge?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, or a failed emissions test.

What causes the P2436 code in a Dodge?

Common causes include a faulty air injection pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, a malfunctioning secondary air injection pump, or an obstruction in the air injection system.

How do I diagnose the P2436 code on my Dodge?

Start by using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspect the air injection pressure sensor and wiring for damage, and check for obstructions or malfunctions in the secondary air injection system.

Can I drive my Dodge with the P2436 code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it is not recommended to ignore this code as it can lead to increased emissions and possibly further damage to the secondary air injection system.

How can I fix the P2436 code on a Dodge?

Common fixes include replacing the faulty air injection pressure sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning or replacing the air injection pump, or clearing any blockages in the system.

How much does it cost to repair the P2436 code on a Dodge?

Repair costs can vary but typically range from $100 to $500, depending on whether the issue is with the sensor, wiring, or air injection pump.

What tools do I need to troubleshoot the P2436 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for testing electrical connections, and possibly basic hand tools for accessing the secondary air injection system components.

Could a P2436 code cause my Dodge to fail an emissions test?

Yes, since the secondary air injection system is critical for reducing emissions, a P2436 code can lead to a failed emissions test.

Is the P2436 code specific to Dodge vehicles?
