Code P2430 Scion Description

The Secondary Air injection (AIR) system consists of an air pump, the Air Switching Valve (ASV), a pressure sensor, the Air Injection Control Driver (AID) and the Engine Control Module (ECM). For a short time after cold engine starts, the AIR system pumps secondary air to the exhaust port of the cylinder head to purify the exhaust emissions. The secondary air is supplied by the air pump and is pumped to the exhaust port through the ASV.
The AID drives the ASV and the air pump according to command signals transmitted by the ECM. The pressure sensor detects the pressure in the secondary air passage when the AIR system is ON and OFF, and transmits pressure signal to the ECM.
The AID is not only equipped to drive the pump and valve, but also with a diagnosis function to detect malfunctions in the AIR system circuit.
HINT: As a large current is required to drive the air pump and ASV, an AID has been added to the previous system.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2430 Scion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2430 mean on a Scion?

P2430 indicates an issue with the Secondary Air Injection System Air Flow/Pressure Sensor Circuit on Bank 1. This means the sensor is reporting abnormal or no readings to the engine control module.

2. What are the symptoms of code P2430 in a Scion?

Symptoms may include the check engine light turning on, reduced engine performance, increased emissions, and, in some cases, difficulty starting the vehicle.

3. What causes the P2430 code to appear in a Scion?

Common causes include a faulty air flow/pressure sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a malfunctioning secondary air injection pump, or a blown fuse.

4. Can I drive my Scion with the P2430 code?

Driving with this code is possible but not recommended, as it may lead to higher emissions and reduced engine efficiency. Prolonged neglect could cause further damage.

5. How do I diagnose the P2430 code on my Scion?

Diagnosis typically involves checking the wiring and connectors for damage, testing the air flow/pressure sensor for proper operation, and inspecting the secondary air injection system for blockages or failures.

6. How do I fix the P2430 code on a Scion?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty air flow/pressure sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, replacing the secondary air injection pump, or addressing any blockages in the system.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P2430 code in a Scion?

Repair costs can vary, but replacing the air flow/pressure sensor typically costs between $150 and $300, including parts and labor. Additional repairs, such as wiring fixes, may increase the cost.

8. Can a dirty air filter cause the P2430 code in a Scion?

While unlikely, a severely clogged air filter could indirectly affect the secondary air injection system. However, the code is usually caused by sensor or system-specific issues.

9. Will clearing the P2430 code with a scanner fix the problem in my Scion?

Clearing the code may turn off the check engine light temporarily, but it will not resolve the underlying issue. Proper diagnosis and repair are necessary.

10. Is the P2430 code specific to Scion vehicles?

No, P2430 is a generic OBDII code applicable to many vehicles, but the troubleshooting and repair process may vary depending on the make and model.
