Code P2196 Mercedes-Benz Description

Two separate monitoring methods calculate the front O2S offset. One monitoring method detects major faults and the other monitoring method detects faults that are more minor. For the major fault detection monitoring method, the offset calculation includes the rear O2S lambda deviation plus the output of the fuel trim (i.e. the P-share and the I-share). For the minor fault detection monitoring method, the offset calculation includes the fuel trim control integral share.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P2196 indicates an unacceptable front O2S signal shift into the richer region is set when the output of the FT control function falls below the calibrated minimum threshold for a calibrated period of time. When the front O2S reads a signal which is too rich, the lambda control leans the A/F, which then becomes too lean. This fault could indicate a leakage current malfunction in the front O2S signal line.
