  • I changed the thermostat had a pcm flash coolant temp sensor and still the same code and even the dealer is stunned

  • Was the temp sensor leaking into the connector? If so, check the connector at the ECM. Coolant could have been pushed up the wires inside the insulation right to the connector for the ECM causing corrosion and damage. This should be accompanied by random other codes as well as possible charging system issues if enough coolant made it to the control module

  • Nope its just the one code. And now its hot out side it runs normal but i did notice with the ac on or off or the heat high or low the radiator fans dont come on until the check engine light comes on. My last resort, replace the fans. This seem to be a fix for some people problems the code is just to broad to pinpoint exactly what it is. Just like a stripper i have to throw money at it until i get results lol

    I wouldn't replace the fans.... The fans come on as a default when the code sets because the car sees a problem and it isn't sure if the
    Info it is recovering from various sensors is correct or not.... So to prevent an overheating issue the fans will kick on... And if they work when that happens then you know the fans work.. you also know that the wiring and control circuit from the fans to the ECM is good... Your problem would be with the info the ECM is receiving (temp sensor, temp sensor wiring, connectors, etc or the ECM. Is just unable to compute the info provided to it and command the fans to come on as it is supposed to do. Hope this helps.. I would take a look at the pcm connector just to be sure... Just had a 13 Challenger with this happen.

I have replaced the thermostat (I purchased from auto zone, and im now hearing that theirs are not good, and to only get them from the dealer) I also replaced the thermostat sensor, manifold gasket and radiator... the problem still occurres after all the time and money spent... The mechanic later replaced the reservoir cap with one of his after i bought it back to him, and the problem is still going on smh... can someone please help me! my engine code is 2181
