Code P2176 Cadillac Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) determines the driver's intent based on input from the accelerator pedal position sensors, then calculates the appropriate throttle response based on the throttle position sensors. The ECM controls the throttle valve by applying a varying voltage to the control circuits of the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) motor. The ECM monitors the duty cycle that is required to actuate the throttle valve. The ECM monitors the TP sensor signal/serial data circuit to determine the actual throttle valve position. The TP sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that both throttle position (TP) sensors were greater than a predetermined voltage during the minimum throttle learn the procedure for greater than 2 s.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P2176 Cadillac OBDII Code

  • The Accelerator pedal was replaced yesterday, it drove fine no issues. This morning 1st attempt to start engine it made a ping/flicking noise on start but stalled out. 2nd attempt started as normal with very high rpm above 4500 for at least 10 -13 seconds idled down and sounds from trans area like a broken whistle then rpm started bouncing from low to high, placed in gear no surge, but still has pedal response. 3rd attempt start up it started but with constant rpm bounce high(3500) to low (1100) until it was shut down, no dieseling occurred. Now i'm guessing the throttle body blade must must have flipped or flickered or the new pedal caused a surge in TAC. I will try reinstalling old pedal accelerator to see if it gives a differrent response or needs to relearn. any help will do
