Code P2137 Dodge Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy. If the APP sensor inputs APP1 and APP2 disagree on the position of the accelerator pedal by more than an expected value, the P2138 is set.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2137 Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2137 mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P2137 indicates a voltage correlation issue between the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor 'B' and 'C.' This means their signals are not matching as expected by the vehicle's computer.

2. What are the symptoms of the P2137 code in a Dodge?

Common symptoms include reduced engine power, throttle hesitation, the engine entering "limp mode," and the illumination of the check engine light.

3. What causes the P2137 code to appear?

The code can be caused by faulty throttle or pedal position sensors, wiring issues like corrosion or damage, or problems with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my Dodge with a P2137 code?

Driving with a P2137 code is not recommended, as it may lead to poor throttle response and unsafe driving conditions. It’s best to address the issue promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P2137 code on my Dodge?

Start by inspecting the throttle and pedal position sensors, checking for damaged wiring or loose connections, and using a scan tool to compare sensor voltage readings.

6. How do I fix the P2137 code in my Dodge?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty throttle or pedal position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or reprogramming/updating the ECM.

7. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2137 code?

While a dirty throttle body is not a direct cause of P2137, it can contribute to throttle-related issues. Cleaning the throttle body may help if other components are functioning properly.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P2137 code on a Dodge?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $500, depending on whether the issue is a sensor replacement, wiring repair, or ECM reprogramming.

9. Does the P2137 code require reprogramming the ECM?

Reprogramming the ECM is not always necessary but may be required if the issue is related to a software problem or after replacing the ECM.

10. Can a low battery cause the P2137 code in a Dodge?

A low battery or unstable voltage can potentially trigger sensor-related codes like P2137. Ensure your battery and charging system are functioning correctly before further diagnosis.
