Code P2135 Buick Description

The Throttle Body Assembly contains a contact-less inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The throttle position sensor is mounted within the throttle body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the throttle body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the throttle body to the ECM. The throttle body cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The throttle position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to throttle blade angle. The throttle position sensor information is transmitted between the throttle body and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit. The ECM decodes the serial data signal and is used as voltages for throttle position sensor 1 and 2. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects that throttle position sensors 1 and 2 disagree greater than 7 - 10 percent for greater than 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2135 Buick Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2135 mean on a Buick?

P2135 indicates a mismatch between the readings of Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) 1 and TPS 2, meaning their signals are not plausible when compared.

2. What are the symptoms of code P2135 on a Buick?

Common symptoms include reduced engine power, limited throttle response, the "Check Engine" light turning on, rough idling, and in some cases, the engine may go into limp mode.

3. What causes the P2135 code on a Buick?

Possible causes include faulty throttle position sensors, issues with the throttle body, damaged or corroded wiring, a failing accelerator pedal position sensor, or a problem with the vehicle’s engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my Buick with a P2135 code?

It is not recommended to drive with this code because the vehicle may experience reduced power or enter limp mode, which can create unsafe driving conditions.

5. How do I fix the P2135 code on my Buick?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the throttle body, replacing faulty throttle position sensors, repairing damaged wiring, or reprogramming or replacing the ECM if necessary.

6. How do I diagnose the P2135 code on my Buick?

Start by inspecting the throttle body and sensors for dirt, damage, or loose connections. Use a scan tool to monitor TPS 1 and TPS 2 readings and confirm if the signals are inconsistent.

7. Is cleaning the throttle body enough to fix the P2135 code on a Buick?

In some cases, cleaning a dirty throttle body may resolve the issue, but if the sensors are faulty or the wiring is damaged, cleaning alone will not fix the problem.

8. How much does it cost to repair the P2135 code on a Buick?

Costs vary depending on the repair, but throttle position sensor replacement typically ranges from $100 to $300, including parts and labor.

9. What tools are needed to address the P2135 code on a Buick?

You may need a scan tool to read and monitor live data, a multimeter to check wiring, and basic hand tools to remove and replace the throttle body or sensors.

10. Can a software issue cause the P2135 code on a Buick?

Yes, a malfunction in the ECM software or improper calibration can sometimes trigger this code, requiring a software update or reprogramming.
