Code P2133 2006 Ford Fusion Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy. The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 3 is out of self-test range high.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2133 2006 Ford Fusion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2133 mean in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

P2133 indicates a high voltage issue in the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'F' circuit, meaning the sensor is sending signals that exceed the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2133 in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Symptoms include reduced engine performance, poor throttle response, the vehicle going into limp mode, and an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P2133 code to appear in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Common causes include a faulty throttle/pedal position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, a malfunctioning throttle body, or a problem with the vehicle's PCM.

4. Can you drive with the P2133 code active in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Driving is not recommended as the vehicle may experience limited throttle response or enter limp mode, potentially causing unsafe driving conditions.

5. How do you diagnose the P2133 code in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Diagnosis involves inspecting the throttle/pedal position sensor, checking for damaged wiring and connectors, and using a multimeter to test the circuit for high voltage or shorts.

6. How can I fix the P2133 code on my 2006 Ford Fusion?

Repairs may include replacing the throttle/pedal position sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, cleaning or replacing the throttle body, or reprogramming the PCM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P2133 code on a 2006 Ford Fusion?

The repair cost varies but typically ranges from $150 to $400, depending on whether the throttle/pedal position sensor or throttle body needs replacement.

8. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2133 code?

Yes, a dirty throttle body can cause improper sensor readings, potentially triggering the P2133 code if it affects the throttle position circuit.

9. Does the P2133 code require a PCM replacement in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

PCM replacement is rare and usually only necessary if all other components and wiring are confirmed to be in proper working order.

10. How do you reset the P2133 code after repairs on a 2006 Ford Fusion?
