Code P2132 2009 Ford Fusion Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy. The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 3 is out of self-test range low.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2132 2009 Ford Fusion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2132 mean on a 2009 Ford Fusion?

P2132 indicates a problem with the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch "F" Circuit reporting a voltage that is lower than the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2132 in a 2009 Ford Fusion?

Symptoms may include a lack of throttle response, reduced engine power, hesitation during acceleration, the check engine light being illuminated, or the vehicle entering "limp mode."

3. What causes the P2132 code in a 2009 Ford Fusion?

Potential causes include a faulty throttle/pedal position sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a malfunctioning throttle body, or a bad connection in the circuit.

4. Can I drive my 2009 Ford Fusion with a P2132 code?

It’s not recommended to drive for extended periods with this code, as it could lead to unsafe driving conditions due to reduced power or throttle response.

5. How do I diagnose the P2132 code in my 2009 Ford Fusion?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to check voltage at the throttle/pedal position sensor. If everything appears normal, the sensor itself or the throttle body may need further testing.

6. How do I fix the P2132 code on a 2009 Ford Fusion?

Repairs may include replacing the throttle/pedal position sensor, repairing damaged wiring, cleaning or replacing the throttle body, or fixing any poor electrical connections in the circuit.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P2132 code?

Costs vary depending on the issue. Replacing a throttle position sensor may cost $100-$300, while wiring repairs or throttle body replacement could cost more, depending on labor rates.

8. Is the P2132 code related to the throttle body or the gas pedal?

Yes, P2132 is directly related to the throttle/pedal position sensor, which could involve the throttle body or the gas pedal assembly, depending on where the sensor is located.

9. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2132 code in a 2009 Ford Fusion?

Yes, a dirty or stuck throttle body can cause improper sensor readings, leading to the P2132 code.

10. Will resetting the check engine light fix the P2132 code?

Resetting the light may temporarily clear the code, but if the underlying issue isn’t resolved, the code and symptoms will return.
