P2129 Dodge Code - Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' Circuit Intermittent

Quick Answer

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. Common causes include Faulty Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor, Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor harness is open or shorted, Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P2129 Dodge Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2129 Dodge Code

What does the OBDII code P2129 mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P2129 indicates an intermittent issue in the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch E Circuit, which could affect throttle response and engine performance.

What are common symptoms of the P2129 code in a Dodge?

Symptoms include poor throttle response, reduced engine power (limp mode), hesitation during acceleration, and possibly an illuminated Check Engine Light.

What causes the P2129 code to appear on a Dodge?

Common causes include a faulty throttle position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, water intrusion, or a failing engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my Dodge with a P2129 code?

It’s possible to drive for short distances, but reduced power and throttle response could make driving unsafe. It’s best to address the issue promptly.

How do I diagnose the P2129 code on my Dodge?

Start by inspecting wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, check the throttle position sensor for proper operation, and use a multimeter to test the circuit.

Can a dirty throttle body cause a P2129 code?

While rare, a dirty throttle body could indirectly contribute to the issue by affecting sensor readings. Cleaning the throttle body might help.

How do you fix the P2129 code on a Dodge?

Repairs can include replacing a faulty throttle position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, cleaning the throttle body, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P2129 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter to test circuits, and basic tools like screwdrivers to inspect and replace components.

How much does it cost to fix the P2129 code on a Dodge?

Costs vary, but replacing a throttle position sensor typically ranges from $100 to $300, including parts and labor. Wiring repairs may cost less.

Can a dead battery cause the P2129 code on a Dodge?

A dead or weak battery can cause electrical issues, potentially leading to intermittent sensor signals, but it’s not a common cause for this specific code.
