Code P2128 Lincoln Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy. The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 2 is out of self-test range high.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2128 Lincoln Code

What does the OBDII code P2128 mean for a Lincoln?

Code P2128 indicates a high voltage issue in the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' circuit, which affects throttle control and engine performance.

What are the common symptoms of code P2128 in a Lincoln?

Symptoms may include reduced engine power, poor acceleration, hesitation during driving, and the illumination of the Check Engine Light.

What causes the P2128 code to appear on a Lincoln?

Common causes include a faulty throttle/pedal position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM).

Can a dirty throttle body trigger the P2128 code?

No, a dirty throttle body typically won’t cause P2128, as the issue is related to the electrical circuit of the throttle or pedal position sensor.

How do you diagnose a P2128 code on a Lincoln?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, testing the throttle/pedal position sensor with a multimeter, and checking the ECM for proper function.

Can a bad pedal position sensor alone cause the P2128 code?

Yes, a malfunctioning pedal position sensor can directly cause the P2128 code if it sends incorrect voltage signals to the ECM.

Is it safe to drive a Lincoln with the P2128 code?

It’s not recommended, as the code can lead to unpredictable throttle behavior, reduced engine power, or loss of acceleration.

How much does it typically cost to repair a P2128 code on a Lincoln?

Repairs can range from $100 to $400 depending on whether you need to replace the throttle/pedal position sensor, fix wiring, or address ECM issues.

Can clearing the P2128 code fix the problem?

Clearing the code may temporarily hide the issue, but the underlying problem will persist until proper repairs are made.

What tools are needed to fix a P2128 code on a Lincoln?

You’ll typically need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter to test electrical components, and basic tools for inspecting and repairing wiring or sensors.
