Code P2126 2006 Ford Fusion Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy. The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor fault flag is set for sensor 2 by the PCM, indicating the signal is out of the normal self-test operating range

Frequently Asked Questions about P2126 2006 Ford Fusion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2126 mean on a 2006 Ford Fusion?

The code P2126 indicates a problem with the Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' Circuit, specifically a range or performance issue.

2. What are the symptoms of a P2126 code in a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Common symptoms include reduced engine performance, unresponsive throttle, activation of "limp mode," and possible illumination of the check engine light.

3. What causes the P2126 code in a Ford Fusion?

Potential causes include a faulty throttle/pedal position sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, or issues with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my 2006 Ford Fusion with a P2126 code?

While the car may still run, driving with this code can lead to poor performance and potential safety issues due to unresponsive throttle control.

5. How do I diagnose the P2126 code on my Ford Fusion?

Start by checking the throttle/pedal position sensor and its wiring for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to test the sensor’s voltage range and performance.

6. How can I fix the P2126 code on a 2006 Ford Fusion?

Repairs may involve replacing the throttle/pedal position sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or, in rare cases, reprogramming or replacing the ECM.

7. What tools are needed to address a P2126 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for testing electrical components, and basic hand tools for sensor or wiring replacement.

8. How much does it cost to fix a P2126 code on a 2006 Ford Fusion?

The cost varies depending on the issue. Replacing the throttle/pedal position sensor typically costs $100-$300, including parts and labor.

9. Can a dirty throttle body cause a P2126 code?

A dirty throttle body is unlikely to cause this code, as it specifically relates to the sensor circuit, but cleaning it may help prevent other throttle-related issues.

10. Does resetting the check engine light fix the P2126 code?

Resetting the light will not fix the underlying issue. You must address the root cause, such as a faulty sensor or wiring problem, to clear the code permanently.
