Code P2123 Dodge Description

The Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensor is an input to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used to determine the amount of torque requested by the operator. There are 2 pedal position signals in the sensor. Both signals, APP and APP2, have a positive slope (increasing angle, increasing voltage), but are offset and increase at different rates. The 2 pedal position signals make sure the PCM receives a correct input even if 1 signal has a concern. The PCM determines if a signal is incorrect by calculating where it should be, inferred from the other signals. If a concern is present with one of the circuits the other input is used. There are 2 reference voltage circuits, 2 signal return circuits, and 2 signal circuits (a total of 6 circuits and pins) between the PCM and the APP sensor assembly. The pedal position signal is converted to pedal travel degrees (rotary angle) by the PCM. The software converts these degrees to counts, which is the input to the torque based strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2123 Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2123 mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P2123 indicates an issue with the throttle actuator control (TAC) motor current, where the current is out of the expected range or there is a performance problem.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P2123 code on a Dodge?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, activation of limp mode, poor throttle response, and the illumination of the check engine light.

3. What causes the P2123 code to appear on a Dodge?

Common causes include a faulty throttle body, a malfunctioning throttle actuator motor, damaged wiring or connectors, or issues with the powertrain control module (PCM).

4. Can I drive my Dodge with the P2123 code?

It is not recommended to drive with this code active, as the vehicle may experience reduced performance or enter limp mode, which could compromise safety.

5. How is the P2123 code diagnosed on a Dodge vehicle?

Diagnosis typically involves scanning for codes, inspecting the throttle body and wiring, testing the throttle actuator motor, and checking for proper PCM operation.

6. How do you fix the P2123 code on a Dodge?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the throttle body, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or replacing the throttle actuator motor or PCM if necessary.

7. Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2123 code on a Dodge?

Yes, a dirty or clogged throttle body can restrict movement and cause issues with the throttle actuator motor, triggering the P2123 code.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P2123 code on a Dodge?

Repair costs can range from $100 for cleaning the throttle body to $1,000 or more for replacing the throttle body or PCM, depending on the issue.

9. Can a bad battery cause the P2123 code on a Dodge?

A weak or failing battery can potentially cause voltage irregularities, which might affect the throttle actuator control system and trigger the P2123 code.

10. Does the P2123 code require PCM reprogramming on a Dodge?

In some cases, if the PCM is at fault or has outdated software, reprogramming or replacing the PCM may be necessary to resolve the P2123 code.
