Code P2104 2007 Ford Fusion Description

The electronic Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) is a DC motor controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). There are 2 designs for the TAC, parallel and inline. The parallel design has the motor under the bore parallel to the plate shaft. The motor housing is integrated into the main housing. The inline design has a separate motor housing. An internal spring is used in both designs to return the throttle plate to a default position. The default position is typically a throttle angle of 7 to 8 degrees from the hard stop angle. The closed throttle plate hard stop prevents the throttle from binding in the bore. This hard stop setting is not adjustable and is set to result in less airflow than the minimum engine airflow required at idle. The P2104 code is set when the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) system is in the Failure Mode Effects Management (FMEM) mode of forced idle.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2104 2007 Ford Fusion Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2104 mean on a 2007 Ford Fusion?

P2104 indicates that the Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) system is in a forced idle mode due to a detected fault in the throttle body or related components.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P2104 code on a 2007 Ford Fusion?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, the engine stuck at idle, a lack of throttle response, and the illumination of the check engine light.

3. What causes the P2104 code to appear?

This code can be triggered by a malfunctioning throttle body, a faulty throttle position sensor, wiring issues, or a problem with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

4. Can I drive my 2007 Ford Fusion with a P2104 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as the vehicle may remain in forced idle mode, limiting its functionality and potentially causing unsafe driving conditions.

5. How do I fix the P2104 code on my 2007 Ford Fusion?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the throttle body, checking and repairing wiring or connections, replacing the throttle position sensor, or reprogramming or replacing the PCM.

6. Is a dirty throttle body a common cause of the P2104 code?

Yes, carbon buildup on the throttle body can cause it to stick or malfunction, leading to the P2104 code. Cleaning the throttle body may resolve the issue.

7. How much does it cost to fix a P2104 code on a 2007 Ford Fusion?

Repair costs vary, but throttle body cleaning may cost $100–$150, while throttle body replacement or sensor repairs may range from $300–$800 depending on parts and labor.

8. Does the P2104 code mean my throttle body needs to be replaced?

Not necessarily. It could also indicate other issues like sensor malfunctions, wiring problems, or PCM errors, so proper diagnosis is essential.

9. Can a faulty PCM cause the P2104 code?

Yes, a malfunctioning PCM can misinterpret signals or fail to control the throttle actuator system properly, triggering the P2104 code.

10. How do I clear the P2104 code on my 2007 Ford Fusion?

After addressing the root cause, the code can be cleared using an OBDII scanner. However, clearing the code without fixing the issue will likely cause it to return.
