Code P2102 RAM Description

The Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Motor is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The DC motor located in the Throttle Body drives the throttle blade. In order to decrease idle speed, along with spark and fuel delivery changes the PCM commands the throttle closed reducing air flow into the engine and the idle speed decreases. In order to increase idle speed, the PCM commands the throttle plate open allowing more air to pass the throttle plate. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set when the PCM detects a low Motor Driver circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2102 RAM Code

What does the OBDII code P2102 mean?

The code P2102 indicates an issue in the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) motor circuit, specifically a low voltage or resistance problem.

What are the common symptoms of code P2102 in a RAM vehicle?

Common symptoms include reduced engine power, throttle response issues, a lit Check Engine Light, and the vehicle possibly entering "limp mode."

What causes the P2102 code to appear?

Potential causes include a faulty throttle body motor, damaged wiring or connectors in the throttle control circuit, a blown fuse, or a malfunctioning PCM.

Can I drive my RAM with the P2102 code?

Driving with the P2102 code is not recommended, as it can lead to reduced performance, unsafe driving conditions, or further damage to the throttle system.

How do I diagnose the P2102 code?

Diagnose the code by inspecting the throttle body, checking for damaged wiring or loose connections, testing the ETC motor, and using a multimeter to check for proper voltage in the circuit.

Is the throttle body always the issue with P2102?

No, while the throttle body motor is a common culprit, the issue could also lie in wiring, connectors, fuses, or the PCM.

What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P2102 code?

You’ll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter, and possibly wiring diagrams for the ETC system in your RAM.

How much does it cost to repair the P2102 code?

Repair costs vary depending on the issue, ranging from $100 for wiring repairs to $500 or more if the throttle body needs replacement.

Can a dirty throttle body cause the P2102 code?

A dirty throttle body is unlikely to cause this specific code, but it’s good to clean it during troubleshooting to rule out related issues.

Will clearing the P2102 code fix the problem?
