Code P20FD Dodge Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pressure buildup system to provide correct (overall) performance. If excessive air is detected during pressure buildup, the Purge Pump system draws fluid back into the DEF tank to remove the air. Once the purge is complete the pressure buildup is reinitialized. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the PCM detects that the DEF Supply Pump Control circuit is above a calibrated threshold for 2.0 seconds. This is a two Trip Fault.

Frequently Asked Questions about P20FD Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P20FD mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P20FD indicates a problem with the Reductant Pump 2 Control Circuit, specifically that the circuit is experiencing low voltage or an electrical fault.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P20FD code?

Symptoms may include the Check Engine Light or DEF warning light illuminating, reduced engine performance, and possible issues with the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system.

3. What causes the P20FD code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty reductant pump, damaged wiring or connectors in the pump circuit, a failed control module, or low voltage issues in the vehicle's electrical system.

4. Can I continue driving with a P20FD code?

Driving with a P20FD code is not recommended as it may lead to reduced engine power or failure to meet emissions standards, potentially causing further damage to the SCR system.

5. How can I diagnose the P20FD code?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage and continuity in the reductant pump control circuit.

6. How do I fix the P20FD code on my Dodge?

Repairs may include replacing the reductant pump, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or updating/replacing the control module if needed.

7. Is the P20FD code related to the DEF system?

Yes, the P20FD code is directly related to the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system since the reductant pump is responsible for delivering DEF to the SCR system.

8. How much does it cost to repair a P20FD code?

Repair costs vary but may range from $200 to $1000, depending on whether you need to replace the reductant pump or address wiring and module issues.

9. Can a low DEF level cause the P20FD code?

A low DEF level usually triggers a different code, but ensuring the DEF tank is adequately filled is a good first step in troubleshooting.

10. Will clearing the P20FD code solve the issue?

Clearing the code without addressing the underlying problem will only result in the code returning. Proper diagnosis and repair are necessary.
