Code P20FC RAM Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pressure buildup system to provide correct (overall) performance. If excessive air is detected during pressure buildup, the Purge Pump system draws fluid back into the DEF tank to remove the air. Once the purge is complete the pressure buildup is reinitialized. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the PCM detects less than 3.0 Volts on the DEF Supply Pump Control circuit for 2.0 seconds. This is a two Trip Fault.

Frequently Asked Questions about P20FC RAM Code

1. What does the OBDII code P20FC mean on a RAM vehicle?

P20FC indicates an issue with the Reductant Pump 2 Control Circuit, which is responsible for regulating the delivery of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) in emissions systems.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P20FC on a RAM?

Symptoms may include the check engine light turning on, reduced engine performance, and warnings related to the emissions system or DEF system malfunction.

3. What causes the P20FC code to appear on a RAM?

Common causes include a faulty reductant pump, damaged wiring or connectors in the control circuit, or issues with the power supply to the pump.

4. Can I continue driving with the P20FC code active?

It’s possible to drive short distances, but prolonged operation may lead to reduced engine performance or emissions compliance issues. Repairs should be addressed promptly.

5. How is the P20FC code diagnosed on a RAM vehicle?

Technicians typically use a scan tool to verify the code, inspect the reductant pump and its wiring, and test the control circuit for proper voltage and continuity.

6. How do you fix the P20FC code on a RAM?

Repairs may involve replacing the reductant pump, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or addressing issues with the power supply to the circuit.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P20FC code on a RAM?

Repair costs vary depending on the specific issue, but replacing the reductant pump can range from $300 to $800, excluding labor.

8. Can a faulty reductant pump trigger the P20FC code?

Yes, a faulty or failing reductant pump is a common cause of the P20FC code.

9. Could a software update resolve the P20FC code?

In some cases, a PCM (Powertrain Control Module) software update may resolve communication errors related to the reductant pump.

10. How can I prevent the P20FC code from appearing on my RAM?

Regular maintenance of the DEF system, ensuring clean fluid and inspecting wiring for damage, can help prevent issues with the reductant pump control circuit.
