Code P2091 Suzuki Description

The Camshaft Position (CMP) Actuator system enables the Engine Control Module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is operating. The CMP actuator solenoid signal from the ECM is Pulse Width Modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the CMP actuator solenoid duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid ON time. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The CMP actuator solenoid controls the oil flow that applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.
Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the CMP actuator solenoid. The ECM controls the solenoid by grounding the control circuit with a solid-state device called a driver. The driver is equipped with a feedback circuit that is pulled-up to a voltage. The ECM can determine if the control circuit is open, shorted to ground, or shorted to a voltage by monitoring the feedback voltage.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will set if the ECM detects a short to voltage in the CMP actuator solenoid circuits for more than 4 seconds or a cumulative of 50 seconds, when the solenoid is commanded ON.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2091 Suzuki Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2091 mean on a Suzuki?

P2091 indicates a high voltage issue in the exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid control circuit on Bank 1, which can affect engine timing.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2091 on a Suzuki?

Symptoms may include rough idling, poor acceleration, reduced fuel efficiency, engine misfires, or an illuminated Check Engine Light.

3. What causes the P2091 code to appear on a Suzuki?

Possible causes include a faulty camshaft position actuator solenoid, damaged wiring or electrical connectors, a malfunctioning PCM, or low engine oil pressure.

4. Can low engine oil cause the P2091 code on a Suzuki?

Yes, low or dirty engine oil can restrict oil flow to the camshaft actuator, resulting in improper operation and triggering the code.

5. How do you diagnose the P2091 code on a Suzuki?

Diagnosis involves scanning for additional codes, visually inspecting wiring and connectors, testing the camshaft actuator solenoid, and checking oil levels and pressure.

6. How is the P2091 code fixed on a Suzuki?

Repairs may include replacing the camshaft position actuator solenoid, repairing damaged wiring, updating or reprogramming the PCM, or addressing oil-related issues.

7. Is it safe to drive with the P2091 code on a Suzuki?

While the car may still be drivable, continued operation can cause engine damage or reduced performance, so it’s best to address the issue promptly.

8. How much does it cost to repair the P2091 code on a Suzuki?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $400, depending on the specific issue, labor rates, and whether parts like the solenoid need replacement.

9. Can a bad PCM cause the P2091 code on a Suzuki?

Yes, a malfunctioning Powertrain Control Module (PCM) can cause this code if it fails to properly regulate the exhaust camshaft actuator circuit.

10. How can I prevent the P2091 code from occurring again on my Suzuki?

Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and inspections of electrical wiring and connectors, can help prevent this code from recurring.
