P2082 Dodge Code - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 Sensor 1

Quick Answer

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) Bank 2 Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P2082 Dodge Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. The EGTS is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and/or in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The EGTS detects exhaust gas temperature and converts it into a voltage and feeds back to the PCM with the voltage signal in order to control engine conditions to effectively reduce emissions. The PCM sets the P2082 OBDII code when the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor is out of factory specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2082 Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2082 mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P2082 indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance for Bank 2 Sensor 1. This sensor monitors exhaust gas temperatures to optimize emissions and engine performance.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2082 in a Dodge?

Symptoms may include the check engine light turning on, reduced fuel efficiency, poor engine performance, and in some cases, the vehicle may enter limp mode.

3. What causes the P2082 code to appear on a Dodge?

Common causes include a faulty EGT sensor, damaged or corroded wiring or connectors, exhaust leaks near the sensor, or an issue with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I drive my Dodge with the P2082 code active?

While it may still be drivable, ignoring the P2082 code can lead to increased emissions, reduced performance, or potential damage to other components like the catalytic converter.

5. How do I diagnose code P2082 on a Dodge?

Diagnosis typically involves using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspecting the EGT sensor and related wiring, checking for exhaust leaks, and testing the sensor's resistance or voltage readings.

6. How is the P2082 code fixed on a Dodge vehicle?

Common fixes include replacing the faulty EGT sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, addressing exhaust leaks, or reprogramming/updating the ECM if necessary.

7. Where is Bank 2 Sensor 1 located for code P2082 on a Dodge?

Bank 2 refers to the side of the engine opposite Bank 1 (usually the side without cylinder #1), and Sensor 1 is located upstream, near the exhaust manifold.

8. How much does it typically cost to fix the P2082 code on a Dodge?

Repair costs can range from $150 to $400, depending on whether the issue is with the sensor itself, wiring repairs, or additional labor for exhaust system work.

9. Can a dirty or clogged exhaust system cause the P2082 code?

Yes, a restricted or clogged exhaust system can impact exhaust gas flow and temperature readings, potentially triggering this code.

10. Will clearing the P2082 code with a scanner fix the problem?

Clearing the code will turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the issue will likely return unless the underlying problem is resolved.
