P2082 Chevrolet Code - Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Bank 2 Sensor 1

Quick Answer

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. Common causes include Faulty Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) Bank 2 Sensor 1, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 harness is open or shorted, Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 circuit poor electrical connection. Severity is High - diagnose this code as soon as possible. Driving is not recommended if the warning light is flashing, the engine runs poorly, or safety-related symptoms are present.

Code P2082 Chevrolet Description

The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) continuously monitors the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor (EGTS) for proper circuit continuity and out of range high values. The EGTS is located in front of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and/or in front of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The EGTS detects exhaust gas temperature and converts it into a voltage and feeds back to the PCM with the voltage signal in order to control engine conditions to effectively reduce emissions. The PCM sets the P2082 OBDII code when the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor is out of factory specifications.

Frequently Asked Questions about P2082 Chevrolet Code

1. What does the OBDII code P2082 mean on a Chevrolet?

The code P2082 indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor Circuit Range/Performance for Bank 2 Sensor 1, meaning the sensor's readings are outside the expected range.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P2082 in a Chevrolet?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, decreased fuel efficiency, a check engine light, and, in some cases, the engine going into limp mode.

3. What causes the P2082 code to appear on a Chevrolet?

Common causes include a faulty EGT sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, exhaust leaks near the sensor, or carbon buildup on the sensor affecting its performance.

4. How can I diagnose the P2082 code on my Chevrolet?

Diagnosis involves using an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, visually inspecting the EGT sensor and wiring, checking for exhaust leaks, and testing the sensor's resistance with a multimeter.

5. Can I drive my Chevrolet with the P2082 code?

Driving with the P2082 code is possible but not recommended, as it can lead to poor fuel economy, increased emissions, and potential damage to the catalytic converter over time.

6. How do I fix the P2082 code on a Chevrolet?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty EGT sensor, repairing damaged wiring, cleaning carbon buildup, or fixing any exhaust leaks near the sensor.

7. Where is the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 located on a Chevrolet?

Bank 2 Sensor 1 is located on the exhaust system of the cylinder bank opposite cylinder 1, typically upstream of the catalytic converter.

8. How much does it cost to fix the P2082 code on a Chevrolet?

Repair costs can vary but typically range from $100 to $300 for parts and labor, depending on whether the sensor needs replacement or other repairs are required.

9. Can a dirty sensor cause the P2082 code on a Chevrolet?

Yes, carbon buildup or contamination on the Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor can cause inaccurate readings and trigger the P2082 code.

10. Will clearing the P2082 code with a scanner fix the problem?

Clearing the code may temporarily turn off the check engine light, but the underlying issue must be repaired to prevent the code from returning.
