Code P204C Dodge Description

The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Pressure Sensor is a three wire sensor, integrated into the DEF Supply Pump and is not serviceable separate from the pump. The DEF Pressure Sensor monitors supply pressure to the DEF Injector. The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Dosing Control Unit provides a 5-Volt Supply and a ground to the DEF Pressure Sensor. The sensor provides a signal to the DEF Dosing Control Unit on the DEF Pressure Sensor Signal circuit. This DEF Pressure Sensor Signal voltage changes, based on the diesel exhaust fluid pressure supplied by the DEF Supply Pump. The DEF Dosing Control Unit uses this information to vary pump speed and maintain the 130 psi (9 bar) pressure needed for proper DEF injection. The DEF Dosing Control Unit will detect a low signal voltage at low diesel exhaust fluid pressures, and a high signal voltage at high diesel exhaust fluid pressures.
The DEF Dosing Control Module will illuminate the MIL light via the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) immediately after the diagnostics runs and fails. Diesel exhaust fluid injection into the after-treatment system is disabled. The DEF Dosing Control Module will turn off the MIL light via the PCM when the monitor runs and passes in three consecutive key cycles.

Frequently Asked Questions about P204C Dodge Code

1. What does the OBDII code P204C mean on a Dodge vehicle?

P204C indicates a "Reductant Pressure Sensor Circuit Low," meaning the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) system's pressure sensor is detecting an abnormally low signal.

2. What are the symptoms of code P204C on a Dodge?

Common symptoms include the check engine light turning on, poor DEF system performance, reduced engine power, and possible warnings about the exhaust system or emissions.

3. What causes the P204C code to appear on a Dodge?

Possible causes include a faulty reductant pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, a clogged DEF system, or a malfunctioning DEF pump.

4. Can I drive my Dodge with the P204C code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring this code can lead to reduced engine performance and potential long-term damage to the emissions system.

5. How do I diagnose code P204C on a Dodge?

Use an OBDII scanner to confirm the code, inspect the reductant pressure sensor and wiring for damage, and check the DEF system for blockages or contamination.

6. How is the P204C code fixed on a Dodge?

Repairs may include replacing the reductant pressure sensor, repairing damaged wiring, cleaning or replacing clogged DEF components, or replacing the DEF pump if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair a P204C code on a Dodge?

The cost can range from $150 to $600 or more, depending on whether the issue is with the sensor, wiring, or other DEF system components.

8. Can low-quality DEF fluid cause the P204C code?

Yes, contaminated or poor-quality DEF fluid can clog the system, causing pressure issues and triggering the P204C code.

9. Does the P204C code affect emissions compliance?

Yes, this code indicates a problem within the DEF system, which is critical for reducing emissions. It can cause your vehicle to fail an emissions test.

10. Is the reductant pressure sensor easy to replace on a Dodge?

The replacement difficulty depends on its location in the DEF system. In some models, it’s accessible, while in others, it may require more disassembly.
