Code P1D66 Jeep Description

Multi-Air is an electronically controlled variable intake valve phase and lift system. Unlike conventional intake valve phase and lift system which controls all the cylinder intake valves simultaneously and in the same proportion; Multi-Air, through the use of an electronically controlled hydraulic link between the camshaft and intake valve, allows for each intake valve to be controlled independently. The valve lift and timing can be adjusted infinitely.
The Multi-Air valve train has a mechanical camshaft lobe acting on a hydraulic pump located between the camshaft intake lobe and the intake valve. The pump provides oil under pressure to a two-way electro-hydraulic solenoid valve called the Variable Valve Actuator (VVA) Solenoid. The VVA Solenoid is electronically controlled during the specific intake cam lobe event by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). During the event, the VVA Solenoid is commanded to either hold oil pressure or bleed oil. The VVA Solenoid is a normally open solenoid. The PCM provides 12 volts to close the solenoid. The position of the VVA Solenoid determines the intake valve timing and lift. This change on valve action is similar to creating a change in the camshaft lobe profile affecting the lift and duration of the valve opening.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the PCM detects a short circuit condition between the VVA Solenoid Control return circuit and the VVA Solenoid Control signal circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1D66 Jeep Code

What does the OBDII code P1D66 mean on a Jeep?

The code P1D66 indicates a performance issue with the Cylinder 2 Oil Supply Solenoid Valve, which is responsible for regulating oil flow to the cylinder for proper engine performance.

What are the common symptoms of the P1D66 code?

Symptoms may include engine misfires, reduced performance, rough idling, increased fuel consumption, or the Check Engine Light being illuminated.

What causes the P1D66 code to appear on a Jeep?

Common causes include a faulty oil supply solenoid valve, wiring or connector issues, low oil pressure, dirty or degraded engine oil, or a malfunction in the engine control module (ECM).

Can I drive my Jeep with the P1D66 code active?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring the issue can lead to engine damage, reduced efficiency, or more costly repairs. It’s best to address the problem promptly.

How do you diagnose the P1D66 code on a Jeep?

Diagnosis involves checking the solenoid valve for proper operation, inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, verifying oil pressure, and scanning for related codes with a diagnostic tool.

What tools are needed to fix the P1D66 code?

You may need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter, basic hand tools, and possibly oil pressure testing equipment to diagnose and repair the issue.

Can dirty or old engine oil cause the P1D66 code?

Yes, dirty or degraded engine oil can hinder the performance of the oil solenoid valve, leading to this code. Regular oil changes can help prevent such issues.

How do you fix the P1D66 code on a Jeep?

Repairs may include replacing a faulty oil supply solenoid valve, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, performing an oil change, or updating/reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

What’s the cost of repairing the P1D66 code?

Costs vary depending on the specific issue, but replacing the solenoid valve typically ranges from $150 to $400, including parts and labor. Additional repairs or diagnostics may increase the cost.

Can a P1D66 code be triggered by low oil levels?

Yes, low oil levels can reduce oil pressure and impact the performance of the oil supply solenoid valve, potentially triggering the P1D66 code.
