Code P1731 RAM Description

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) constantly calculates the transmission ratio based on the Input Speed Sensor signal and Output Shaft Speed signal. This diagnostic will detect if the transmission is trying to mechanically shift into a different gear than what the TCM commanded. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the actual (calculated) gear differs from target (expected) gear, the turbine slip (difference between actual and calculated turbine speeds) is greater than 300 rpm, or the calculated Transmission ratio is above calibrated value. Also, the DTC could be set during a downshift and the actual (calculated) gear is greater than target (expected) gear or an actual (calculated) gear is 1st and target (desired) gear is 2nd.
