Monitors revolution of sensor 1 and sensor 2 for non-standard conditions. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1716 will be set when the Transmission Control Module (TCM) does not detect the signal from the sensor.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P1716 Nissan OBDII Code

  • my truck will not start turn over nothing

  • What year is your Nissan truck? There are many things that can cause that problem. You could start by checking the fuel pressure and spark plugs.

  • Unfortunately prices varies from place to place, but for your pathfinder, the components for the P1731 and P1716 are inside the transmission and both are part of the transmission valve body. If the valve body require to be be replace, the repair can cost you over $800.

  • Have you checked the transmission fluid level? low level can cause the transmission to lock and stall the engine. If the transmission fluid is OK, the you may have a problem with the harness. Unfortunately finding an electrical problem is not easy and requires the problem to be more consistent.

  • I have an '04 Nissan Titan w/the P1716 issue. Do you think I'd need the same $800+ transmission valve body replacement you mentioned below?

  • Based just on the P1716 code, you do have to replace the valve body to fix the problem. There is an small chance that the problem is the Transmission Control Module (TCM), but in order to replace the TCM you have to remove the valve body, ans since your Titan transmission is over over 12 years old, I recommend replacing the complete valve body.

  • Thank you. I don't have much experience with cars, but I am handy/mechanical and would like to learn. Is there a resource you would recommend for buying the part and instructions to install it?

  • You can only get the part from the dealer, I haven't seen any aftermarket valve body. The installation instructions and everything else about the transmission are in the "Automatic Transmission" section of the service manual. You can download the section free from our other site (you just have to register for free): http://x.nissanhelp.com/for...

  • I have a 2005 nissan xterra 4.0 v6 im having problems with the transmission it does shift past 1st gear ....the scanner gave me 2 codes p1716 revolution sensor and p1731 a/t 1st gear brake ..i looked it up and says its the low coast brake solenoid valve how do i go about fixing it change the revolution sensor and low coast brake solenoid ?

  • How is the transmission fluid level and condition? when was the last time you change the fluid? if you try clearing the code, how long take the codes to come back?

  • I checked the transmission fluid its seems to be on level but smells burnt and is a little dark ...i have not changed the fluid or tried clearing the codes because it does not shift pass 1st gear i didnt think it would be that ?

  • Sounds like you have a damage valve body

  • What is the valve body mone shifts but starting to slip

  • The valve body is a part of the transmission that contains all the electronic components that controls the transmission mechanical components. Before replacing any parts, make sure the transmission fluid level and condition is OK.

  • I have 2005 Nissan Navara-diesel engine with automatic transmission gearbox and the scanner gave me P1716 code, the transmission gearbox doesn't shift to 5th gear and overdrive doesn't work normal

  • I have 2005 Nissan Navara-diesel engine with automatic transmission gearbox and the scanner gave me P1716 code, the transmission gearbox doesn't shift to 5th gear and overdrive doesn't work normal, what is a way forward?

  • My Nissan pathfinder 2003 looses power wen its hot mostly driven on express , ve changed fuel pump

  • Unfortunately there are many thing that could cause that problem. Any other symptoms or codes? The Turbine Sensor (Code P1716) may not be the cause of the problem.

  • I’m having shifting issues with my 04 Nissan 350z. It will shift from 1st and 2nd no problem, but after that it takes a while to shift into any gear after that, around 4-5k it will shift. Now I have the ethos pro scanner from snap on and the code it’s giving me is p1716 which in the turbine revolution sensor, now correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t this sensor translate into the sensor known as the Input shaft speed sensor? Aamco is telling me I need to replace my entire tcm, and I don’t have that kinda money falling out of my pocket like that.

  • It doesn't matter, all the sensors and TCM are part of the transmission Valve Body anyways and neither part is serviceable, you have to replace the "Valve Body" assembly.
You should also consider rebuilding the entire transmission, after 13 years there are other parts that may have worn out as well.

  • Thank you very much this cleared a lot of unanswered questions I’ve been searching for.

  • I have one more question. Would reprogramming the tcm help with this issue?

  • Unless there is a factory service recommending it, it's unlikely that reprogramming the TCM will fix the problem.

There are no bulletins for that code: http://x.nissanhelp.com/for...

  • P1716 code coming up on my 2003 G35 it is only driven in the warm months 154K on it.

Service Engine soon light is on as well AT light flashes like 5 times and Air Bag light flashes.

There was a lurch when going from 1st to 2nd.

I put about 5K on it per season and donèt drive it too hard.

    CHeers,

    Kevin

  • When was the last time you change the transmission fluid? You could try changing the transmission fluid first, but if the problem persist, then you may have to replace the transmission valve body.

  • Was going to change it today but when they read the code they suggested taking it to a trany specialty shop since they live and breath transmission issues....the garage I go to are great honest guys and set me up at the location they get all there transmission work done at...the car has been pretty much bulletproof since I have had her oil filter and lube changes every 5000k and undercoated before I put it away for the winter....Thanks for the info it is much appreciated!

    Kevin

  • Taking you G to a transmission shop is a good advice.

FYI there is a factory service bulletin for the 2003 Infiniti G35. The bulletin suggests reprogramming the Transmission Control Module to repair the problem, but that bulletin is very old and due to the age and mileage of your vehicle, it may not apply.

  • Awesome.... again thanks for the follow-up and the quick responses....I have just put the site as a bookmark.

I will return to let you know what she needed to fix her up.

    Cheers,

    Kevin

  • So if I swap the turbine revolution sensor and the solenoids anyway it wont work??

  • What model and year is your vehicle?

  • 2004 coupe

  • migueladurand I agree

  • If you have an automatic transmission, then the problem is more than likely the problem is the transmission valve body.

  • I have the Nissan Lafesta which reduces speed after 10-20 kilometers, does not exceed 80 kilometer/hours even though i press accelerator pad to the end.The airbag light is always on.What could be the problem?

  • 2005 nissan armada my P1716 input code is popping up on my computer screener but I don't know the location of it to change it

  • I have a 2005 nissan armada and P1716 code is popping up but can't find location of the input on my transmission to change

  • The P1716 code is for the Turbine Revolution Sensor. The Turbine Revolution Sensor is attached to the Transmission Valve Body which is inside the transmission. You have to remove the transmission pan to access the Valve Body
