Discuss the causes and fixes for P1716 2003 Infiniti G35 OBDII Code

  • had the maf sensor replaced by the dealer. my exhaust has holes and cracks in it. ordered a new exhaust. my car revs high rpms but does not want to accelerate. could the bad exhaust be the cause and make this code show up? 2003 g35 sedan..

  • No, the exhaust has nothing to do with this code. The P1716 code a transmission related code.

  • could a bad tcm be the cause for this? could I try swapping out a different one from the same year and module? would it hurt or mess things up more? Cant afford a new trany at this time...

  • was told by dealer that I need a new transmission. also read a special bulletin about this issue and that its a well known issue that involves the tcm to be re programed.

  • so reprogramming the tcm will fix the problem? For the p1716 code?

  • I have a p1716 code on my 03 Infiniti g35.

How do you fix this code. I have deleted the ecu and the code came back after. I know the sensor is located in the upper back part of the transmission but I have heard if they reset the ram it will work but how do u reset the tcm?

  • I know the sensor is located in the upper back part of the transmission

Actually, the sensor is part of the transmission valve body, inside the transmission. I haven't heard about the "RAM" reset, but there is a service bulletin that suggest reprogramming the TCM. Only the dealer, and some shop with access to reprogramming software, is able to reprogram the TCM with the latest program.

  • What if I just change the sensor will it work properly again. But this code just came up a few days ago after I change my transmission filter and transmission oil?

  • If I change the sensor will it work properly again?

  • Have you found out any issues. My 03 g35 sedan doing the same thing

  • Gotta get a new transmission :( my 03 g35 sedan is doing the same thing. 2nd time. It happened again because they forgot to put transmission fluid in. I can go over 40mph, rpm shoot through the roof especially uphill. If I press hard on the gas, it explodes forward, and then goes back down. Not good stuff. It’s the tranny :(
