  • Hello all I'm having issues with my 2007 Honda Civic hybrid 210,000 miles. Alright to start I bought the car a couple weeks ago, probably mid February. When I first went to purchase the car I noticed that the it had a slow start (0-20 mph) and that the Check engine light and IMA light were on however the 12v Battery light was not on at the time. On the dash the "ASST" bar was completely empty and the "CHRG" bar had one bar full but was empty after about 10 mins of driving and I haven't seen the bar charged since. I'm assuming that means the hybrid battery is not contributing to power the vehicle. On my way home (Driving from Maryland to Pennsylvania, approx. 400 miles) I noticed the 12v battery light come on. I was able to make it home and had no issues with the 12v battery dying but the hybrid system is my main concern. when I got home my first instinct was to scan the codes to see what was going on with the vehicle, only to find the DLC not powering my OBD2 scanner. After a quick fuse check the underhood fuse was the issue #23 "Back Up". This blown fuse was also the reason for my nonworking radio. After the quick fuse change I got back to scanning the car to find these 4 codes U0155, P0A9E, P0AC8, P0ACD. Apparently the first code means "lost communication with IPU" and the other 3 are Temp sensors A, B and C are reading too high. From here I did some googling to find that many people have had trouble with the IMA battery, so this would be my first potential problem to check. I opened up the back of my car and checked the voltage of the battery pack. The pack read 174v. I continued to remove the pack and brought it inside. I dismantled the pack to check for cell deterioration and temp sensor deterioration. All 11 married cells looked clean and honestly looked brand new as well as the sensors. I then put the pack back together exactly how I dismantled it, taking note of each cells location. After that I put the pack back in the car, hooked up all wires and flipped the battery back on. Next I cleared the remaining codes and scanned again. This time all were gone but replaced with one code reading- P1570- Battery Module Individual Voltage Problem. At this point I have no tangible idea what the problem is. I assumed the problem was an out of balance battery pack. Next step I purchased a grid charger from MaxxxVolts.com. While I waited for the charger to ship I tried a few tricks to hopefully get the battery back to no avail. I checked all fuses, running the car at 3,000 RPMs to kick the car into a charging state, and unhooking the 12v battery leads and touching them together. Nothing worked. Finally the battery charger arrived and I hooked it up. I grid charged and discharged the battery 3 times over the course of 3 days. I charged to about 187v and then discharged it to about 0-8v and then back to 187v, each time with a light bulb discharge setup and the grid charger. After the three charges I unhooked all the leads I had added, screwed everything back into place and closed the IPU back up. I then unhooked the negative and positive leads from the 12v and touched them together to reset the BCM and hopefully clear the IMA light. Well I started up the car and sure enough the light is still there and the CHRG bars are still empty. So now I am fairly confident that the IMA battery is in good condition but I am unsure as to what the problem is and to what I should check next. I know the IMA battery is holding charge and I know that my 12v battery is getting charged by the DC/DC converter because the car hasn't died on me, but I guess the issue is the power from the IMA battery to the drivetrain. I read somewhere that the BCM or the MCM may need a software update for the battery to work properly but only a dealership can do the update I think. I'm considering buying a Honda HDS HIM diagnostics tool next.
