Code P1519 1999 Ford F150 Description

The Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) is an electrically actuated system consisting of a motorized actuator with an attaching linkage for each housing on each bank. The linkage attaches to the housing butterfly plate levers. Each IMRC housing is an aluminum casting with two intake air passages for each cylinder. One passage is always open, and the other is opened and closed with a butterfly valve plate. The housing uses a return spring to hold the plates closed. The motorized actuator houses internal switches to provide feedback to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), indicating linkage and plate position. Under about 3000 rpm, the vacuum solenoid will be energized. This will allow the manifold vacuum to be applied and the butterfly valve plates to stay closed. Above approximately 3000 rpm, the vacuum solenoid will be de-energized. This will allow a vacuum to vent from the actuator and the butterfly valve plates to open. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) sets when the IMRC is commanded open, but the IMRC monitor indicates close.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1519 1999 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1519 indicate on a 1999 Ford F150?

- Code P1519 indicates that the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) is stuck in the closed position. This system is designed to optimize engine performance by controlling air flow based on engine speed and load.

2. What are common symptoms of code P1519 in a 1999 Ford F150?

- Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, rough idling, and the engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the Intake Manifold Runner Control to get stuck closed in a 1999 Ford F150?

- Common causes include a faulty IMRC actuator, obstructed or damaged linkage, vacuum leaks, or electrical issues affecting the IMRC circuit.

4. How can I fix the OBDII code P1519 on my 1999 Ford F150?

- Repairing this code may involve replacing or repairing the IMRC actuator, clearing obstructions from the linkage, repairing vacuum leaks, or addressing any electrical faults in the IMRC circuit.

5. Is it safe to drive my 1999 Ford F150 with the code P1519?

- While the vehicle can still be driven, prolonged driving with this issue can lead to decreased engine performance and increased fuel consumption. It's advisable to address the issue promptly.

6. How do I diagnose the IMRC system for faults that could lead to code P1519 in a 1999 Ford F150?

- Diagnosis should start with a visual inspection of the IMRC components for any obvious damage or disconnections. This should be followed by checking the vacuum lines for leaks, and testing the IMRC solenoid and actuator with a multimeter to ensure proper operation.

7. Can a DIY'er fix the P1519 code on a 1999 Ford F150, or should it be taken to a professional?

- A DIY'er with some automotive repair experience can often address common issues related to the P1519 code, especially if it involves simple tasks like replacing vacuum lines or clearing linkage obstructions. However, more complex electrical issues or component replacements might require professional assistance.

8. What tools are required to diagnose and repair the P1519 code on a 1999 Ford F150?

- Tools needed might include a multimeter for electrical testing, a vacuum gauge for testing vacuum lines, basic hand tools for removing and replacing components, and possibly an OBDII scanner to read and clear the code.

9. How does the IMRC system affect the performance of the 1999 Ford F150?

- The IMRC system helps optimize engine efficiency and performance by adjusting the airflow within the intake manifold based on engine speed and load. When it's stuck closed, the engine may not receive the optimal air mixture, leading to performance issues.

10. What is the cost to fix code P1519 on a 1999 Ford F150?

- The cost can vary widely depending on the specific cause. Simple repairs like vacuum line replacement might cost under $100, whereas replacing the IMRC actuator or addressing complex electrical issues can be significantly more expensive, potentially several hundred dollars.
