Code P1482 Cadillac Description

The engine cooling fan is a variable speed fan. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the fan speed by sending a pulse width modulated signal to the cooling fan speed control module. The cooling fan control module varies the voltage drop across the engine cooling fan motor in relation to the pulse width modulated signal. The cooling fan speed is affected by many different conditions and can be adjusted from 10-90 percent duty cycle. Ninety percent is considered high fan speed. When multiple cooling speed requests are received, the ECM uses the highest cooling fan speed of all the requests. During normal fan ON operation, the control circuit voltage will be low and near battery voltage when the fan is OFF.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1482 Cadillac Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1482 mean on a Cadillac?

P1482 indicates a "Cooling Fan Circuit Condition," meaning the engine control module (ECM) has detected an issue with the cooling fan circuit, such as improper voltage or resistance.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P1482 code?

Symptoms may include engine overheating, the cooling fan not turning on, an illuminated check engine light, and reduced air conditioning performance.

3. What causes the P1482 code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty cooling fan relay, a damaged cooling fan motor, corroded or loose wiring connections, or a problem with the engine control module (ECM).

4. How can I diagnose the P1482 code?

Diagnosis typically involves checking the cooling fan relay, testing the fan motor for proper operation, inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, and using a multimeter to measure voltage and continuity in the circuit.

5. Can I drive my Cadillac with the P1482 code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it could lead to engine overheating, which may cause severe engine damage if not addressed promptly.

6. How do I fix the P1482 code?

Repairs may include replacing a faulty cooling fan relay, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, replacing the cooling fan motor, or reprogramming or replacing the ECM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P1482 code?

Repair costs vary depending on the issue. Replacing a cooling fan relay may cost $50–$150, while a new cooling fan motor could range from $300–$600, including labor. ECM repairs can be more expensive.

8. Can a blown fuse cause the P1482 code?

Yes, a blown cooling fan fuse can disrupt the circuit and trigger the P1482 code. Always inspect and replace fuses as part of the diagnostic process.

9. What tools are needed to troubleshoot the P1482 code?

Tools may include a diagnostic scanner, a digital multimeter, and basic hand tools for inspecting and repairing wiring or components.
