The "Check Engine" light does not necessarily come on when code P1448 is innitially issued. Maybe it does if the code persists but I found this code while checking to see how many monitors were ready prior to taking a 1998 Nissan Frontier for emissions testing. The CEL was not lit.

I was getting a 1448 code so i was going to order a solenoid valve and decided to pull it to see the type and while i had it off i looked inside the opening where the hose goes and there was a little rust on the plunger shaft and the plunger was stuck open. you can blow into it to check if its open or closed so i shot some tri lube into the shaft and got a small screwdriver and started to move it up and down until it got the spring action back in it like its suppose to.Cleared the code and no more check engine light.Saved $160. for the valve. 1998 nissan Maxima It started with check engine light with no diognostics trouble codes about every tank full and then went to every 80 miles it would come up with 1448. I would check this before ordering anything. Hope this helps

So I've got the P1448 Nissan - EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve Open code going on and replaced the valve ($40 on Amazon) and the light is still on. I changed the gas cap because I had heard that sometimes that makes a difference and it didn't. My mechanic buddy checked the computer and it said that all diagnostics were complete except for the evaporator diagnostic said incomplete. Do I have to drive a certain number of miles for the computer to complete this? It's a 03 Sentra.

You need an special tool to test the cap. It' better if you can do the video test, just to make sure the problem is the valve and not the canister.
