Discuss the causes and fixes for P1440 Toyota OBDII Code

  • For this code you usually just need to replace the faulty VSV or repair the wiring for it. This VSV actuates the Bank1 Secondary Air Switching Valve No.2 This VSV is sometimes the cause of and accompanied by a P1442 Valve No.2 Stuck Closed Code Bank1. P1440 is an electrical type fault our bypass kits at www.hewitt-tech.com cannot take care of by themselves.

  • I am getting this code 1440 along with 1443 1613 and a four codes referencing to heater control circuits- we installed one of your bypass kits last year- could this mean the bypass kit has failed or something has happened to the wiring?

  • With both a p1440 and p1443 i would first suspect wiring damage since the wires involved are in the same harness under the intake and the VSV failures are not very common, especially both at once. Four heater circuit codes are probably O2 sensor related. Could be wiring and or a fuse from one circuit being damaged. As stated these are not codes the bypass kit can take care of. We see lots of wiring damage in the winter from nesting rodents.
