Code P1425 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The intake airflow valve of diesel engines reduces the intake air flow rate in part-load operation so that a higher exhaust gas recirculation rate can be achieved.
The Intake airflow valve assembly contains a contactless inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The valve position sensor is mounted within the valve body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the valve body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and an asynchronous signal/serial data circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the intake airflow valve to the ECM. The Intake Air Flow Valve cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The valve position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the valve blade angle. The valve position sensor information is transmitted between the Intake Air Flow Valve and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit.
The valve may also be used to shut down the engine by closing the intake airflow valve and disabling the fuel injectors if the control module detects the engine speed is beyond the desired control limits. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ECM detects that the intake airflow valve control circuit internal temperature is greater than a calibrated threshold.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1425 2018 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1425 mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

P1425 refers to "Intake Air Flow Valve Control Motor High Temperature," indicating that the control motor for the intake air flow valve has overheated or is operating outside its normal temperature range.

2. What are the symptoms of code P1425 in a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include reduced engine performance, poor fuel efficiency, the check engine light turning on, and, in some cases, rough idling or hesitation during acceleration.

3. What causes the P1425 code to appear on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

The code can be triggered by a malfunctioning intake air flow valve control motor, electrical issues such as damaged wiring or connectors, or excessive heat buildup in the motor due to overuse or obstruction.

4. Can I drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with the P1425 code active?

While it may be possible to drive with this code, it is not recommended as it can lead to reduced engine performance and potential damage to other engine components if the issue is not addressed.

5. How do I diagnose the P1425 code on my 2018 GMC Sierra?

Diagnose the issue by scanning for codes with an OBDII scanner, visually inspecting the intake air flow valve control motor and its wiring, and testing the motor's functionality and electrical connections.

6. How can I fix the P1425 code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may include replacing the intake air flow valve control motor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, and ensuring the valve is free of obstructions or carbon buildup.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P1425 code on a GMC Sierra?

The cost can range from $150 to $500 depending on whether the issue is related to the motor itself, wiring, or other components. Labor costs vary based on the specific repair.

8. What tools do I need to troubleshoot the P1425 code?

You'll need an OBDII scanner, a multimeter for electrical testing, and basic hand tools for inspecting or replacing components.

9. Can a dirty intake system cause the P1425 code?

Yes, carbon buildup or debris in the intake system can obstruct the valve and cause the motor to overheat, leading to the P1425 code.

10. Will resetting the check engine light fix the P1425 code?

Resetting the light may temporarily clear the code, but the underlying issue must be resolved to prevent the code from returning.
