Code P140F 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and a signal circuit. The EGR position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the EGR position. The EGR position sensor information is transmitted between the EGR valve and the ECM on the signal circuit. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor signal is used by the ECM to detect the proper amount of EGR flow. The ECM will close the EGR valve, then open the EGR valve to 100%. The ECM will then calculate the MAF difference and determine if the proper EGR flow has been detected. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects excessive current flow to the EGR motor for greater than 2.5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P140F 2018 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P140F mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

The code P140F indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) motor current performance, suggesting the EGR system is not functioning properly.

2. What are the common symptoms of P140F on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms can include a check engine light, reduced engine performance, rough idling, decreased fuel efficiency, or noticeable exhaust issues.

3. What causes the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty EGR motor, wiring issues, carbon buildup in the EGR valve, or a malfunctioning EGR position sensor.

4. Can I drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with the P140F code?

While the truck may still be drivable, continuing to drive with this code can lead to reduced performance and potentially damage the engine or emissions system.

5. How do I diagnose the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Diagnose it by inspecting the EGR motor, checking for carbon buildup, testing the wiring and connectors, and using a scan tool to monitor EGR system performance.

6. What repairs are needed to fix the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve cleaning or replacing the EGR valve, repairing wiring or connectors, or replacing a faulty EGR motor or position sensor.

7. How much does it typically cost to fix the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Costs can vary but typically range from $150 to $500 depending on whether cleaning, repair, or part replacement is required.

8. Can a clogged EGR valve cause the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, carbon buildup in the EGR valve can restrict movement and trigger the P140F code.

9. Will resetting the check engine light fix the P140F code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Resetting the light may clear it temporarily, but the underlying issue must be addressed to prevent the code from returning.

10. Is the P140F code related to emissions compliance on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Yes, the EGR system is part of the emissions control system, so a P140F code can lead to a failed emissions test if not resolved.
