Code P140F 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and a signal circuit. The EGR position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the EGR position. The EGR position sensor information is transmitted between the EGR valve and the ECM on the signal circuit. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor signal is used by the ECM to detect the proper amount of EGR flow. The ECM will close the EGR valve, then open the EGR valve to 100%. The ECM will then calculate the MAF difference and determine if the proper EGR flow has been detected. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects excessive current flow to the EGR motor for greater than 2.5 s.

1. What does OBDII code P140F mean on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

P140F indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) motor's current performance, meaning the motor isn't operating within the expected current parameters.

2. What are common symptoms of code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, reduced engine performance, rough idling, poor fuel economy, or hesitation during acceleration.

3. What causes code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Common causes include a faulty EGR motor, clogged EGR passages, wiring or connector issues, or a malfunctioning EGR valve position sensor.

4. Can I drive my 2015 GMC Sierra with code P140F?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, ignoring this issue can lead to reduced engine performance, increased emissions, and potential long-term damage to the EGR system.

5. How do I diagnose code P140F on my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Start by inspecting the EGR motor, wiring, and connectors for damage or corrosion. Use a scan tool to check EGR motor performance and look for additional trouble codes.

6. How can I fix code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Possible fixes include cleaning the EGR valve and passages, replacing the EGR motor, repairing damaged wiring, or replacing the EGR position sensor if faulty.

7. How much does it cost to fix code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $150 to $500, depending on whether the EGR motor or other components need replacement.

8. Can a clogged EGR valve cause code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Yes, a clogged EGR valve can restrict airflow, causing the EGR motor to draw abnormal current and trigger the P140F code.

9. Will clearing the P140F code resolve the issue on my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Clearing the code may temporarily turn off the check engine light, but the underlying issue must be repaired to prevent the code from returning.

10. Can a failing battery or alternator cause code P140F on a 2015 GMC Sierra?
