Code P140F 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and a signal circuit. The EGR position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the EGR position. The EGR position sensor information is transmitted between the EGR valve and the ECM on the signal circuit. The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor signal is used by the ECM to detect the proper amount of EGR flow. The ECM will close the EGR valve, then open the EGR valve to 100%. The ECM will then calculate the MAF difference and determine if the proper EGR flow has been detected. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the ECM detects excessive current flow to the EGR motor for greater than 2.5 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P140F 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

What does the OBDII code P140F mean for a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

The P140F code indicates an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) motor current performance, meaning the EGR system may not be functioning as expected.

What are common symptoms of the P140F code in a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Symptoms may include a check engine light, reduced fuel efficiency, engine hesitation, rough idle, or noticeable drops in engine performance.

What causes the P140F code to appear in a Chevrolet Silverado?

Common causes include a faulty EGR motor, wiring or connector issues, carbon buildup in the EGR valve, or problems with the vehicle’s ECM.

Can I drive my Silverado with the P140F code active?

Driving with the P140F code is possible but not recommended, as it can lead to reduced performance, higher emissions, and potential long-term damage to the EGR system.

How do I diagnose the P140F code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Diagnosis typically involves scanning the vehicle with an OBDII tool, visually inspecting the EGR motor and wiring, checking for carbon buildup, and testing the EGR system components.

What repairs can fix the P140F code in a Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include cleaning or replacing the EGR valve, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or replacing the EGR motor if it’s faulty.

How much does it cost to repair the P140F code on a Silverado?

Repair costs vary, but cleaning the EGR valve may cost $100-$200, while replacing the EGR motor can cost $300-$600 depending on parts and labor.

Can a dirty EGR valve cause the P140F code?

Yes, carbon buildup in the EGR valve can restrict movement and cause the EGR motor to draw abnormal current, triggering the P140F code.

How can I prevent the P140F code from occurring again?

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning the EGR valve and ensuring the EGR system is free of carbon buildup, can help prevent the P140F code from reappearing.

Does the P140F code affect emissions?

Yes, the P140F code can increase emissions because the EGR system is not functioning properly, which may cause excess nitrogen oxides to be released.
