Code P1239 Dodge Description

The Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) Sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the engine oil. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) supplies a 5-Volt reference and a ground to the sensors low reference signal circuit. When the oil temperature is low, the sensor resistance is high. When the oil temperature is high, the sensor resistance is low. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1239 is set when the Engine Oil temperature rises slower than a calibrated modeled temperature. When the actual oil temperature falls below the low boundary of the calibrated modeled temperature for three minutes the fault is set. Two trip fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P1239 Dodge OBDII Code

  • I have a 2007 Dodge 1500 with 5.7. The original problem started with oil pressure gauge bottoming out. Truck runs fine no signs of actually losing oil pressure so I changed the oil sending unit. Didn't fix the problem. Checked for codes and it has a p1239 low oil temp. My question is if the oil temp sending unit is bad can that affect the pressure sending unit and make the gauge act all crazy???

  • Please double check the code, I can't find any information for the P1239 in the factory service manual for you vehicle. If the number is OK, then try with another scanner.
