Code P122B 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The intake airflow valve of diesel engines reduces the intake air flow rate in part-load operation so that a higher exhaust gas recirculation rate can be achieved.
The Intake airflow valve assembly contains a contactless inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The valve position sensor is mounted within the valve body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the valve body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and an asynchronous signal/serial data circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the intake airflow valve to the ECM. The Intake Air Flow Valve cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The valve position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the valve blade angle. The valve position sensor information is transmitted between the Intake Air Flow Valve and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit.
The valve may also be used to shut down the engine by closing the intake airflow valve and disabling the fuel injectors if the control module detects the engine speed is beyond the desired control limits. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ECM detects an open circuit on the intake airflow valve control circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P122B 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P122B mean on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

P122B refers to an issue with the "Intake Air Flow Valve Control Supply Voltage Circuit," indicating a problem with the electrical circuit responsible for the intake airflow valve.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P122B code?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, poor throttle response, the Check Engine Light illuminated, and potential stalling or hesitation during acceleration.

3. What causes the P122B code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Common causes include a faulty intake airflow valve, damaged wiring or connectors in the supply voltage circuit, or issues with the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can a dirty throttle body cause a P122B code?

A dirty throttle body itself may not directly cause P122B, but related airflow restrictions or sensor malfunctions can contribute to the issue.

5. How can I diagnose the P122B code on my Silverado?

Start by inspecting the intake airflow valve, wiring, and connectors for damage or corrosion. Use a multimeter to check for proper voltage in the circuit and scan for related codes.

6. Is the P122B code serious, and can I keep driving the truck?

While the truck may still run, the P122B code can lead to reduced performance and potential long-term engine damage. It’s best to address the issue promptly.

7. How do I fix the P122B code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may involve replacing the intake airflow valve, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming the ECM if necessary.

8. Can a weak battery cause the P122B code?

Yes, insufficient voltage from a weak or failing battery can affect the intake airflow valve control circuit, potentially triggering the P122B code.

9. Do I need to replace the ECM if I get a P122B code?

Replacing the ECM is rarely the first step. Only consider ECM replacement after ruling out all other causes, such as wiring issues or a faulty valve.

10. How much does it cost to repair a P122B code on a 2015 Silverado?

Costs can vary. Replacing the intake airflow valve may cost $300–$600, while wiring repairs are typically less expensive. ECM replacement, if needed, can cost $800–$1,200.
