Code P122B 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The intake airflow valve of diesel engines reduces the intake air flow rate in part-load operation so that a higher exhaust gas recirculation rate can be achieved.
The Intake airflow valve assembly contains a contactless inductive throttle position sensing element that is managed by a customized integrated circuit. The valve position sensor is mounted within the valve body assembly and is not serviceable. The Engine Control Module (ECM) supplies the valve body with a 5 V reference circuit, a low reference circuit, an H-bridge motor directional control circuit, and an asynchronous signal/serial data circuit. The asynchronous signal means communication is only going from the intake airflow valve to the ECM. The Intake Air Flow Valve cannot receive data from the ECM over the signal/serial data circuit. The valve position sensor provides a signal voltage that changes relative to the valve blade angle. The valve position sensor information is transmitted between the Intake Air Flow Valve and the ECM on the signal/serial data circuit.
The valve may also be used to shut down the engine by closing the intake airflow valve and disabling the fuel injectors if the control module detects the engine speed is beyond the desired control limits. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set if the ECM detects an open circuit on the intake airflow valve control circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P122B 2014 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P122B mean on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

P122B indicates an issue with the Intake Air Flow Valve Control Supply Voltage Circuit, which disrupts the proper function of the intake airflow valve.

2. What are the common symptoms of P122B on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Symptoms may include reduced engine performance, poor acceleration, rough idling, and an illuminated check engine light.

3. What causes the P122B code to appear?

Common causes include damaged wiring or connectors in the intake air control circuit, a faulty intake air control valve, or a malfunctioning powertrain control module (PCM).

4. Can I drive my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with the P122B code?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it could experience reduced performance and fuel efficiency. It’s best to address the issue promptly to avoid potential engine damage.

5. How do you diagnose the P122B code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Diagnosis involves checking the wiring and connectors for damage, testing the intake air control valve, and using a multimeter to verify proper voltage in the circuit.

6. How can P122B be fixed on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repairs may include replacing damaged wiring or connectors, replacing the intake air control valve, or reprogramming or replacing the PCM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P122B code on a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repair costs vary but typically range from $100 to $500, depending on whether the issue is with the wiring, valve, or PCM.

8. Can a dirty air filter cause the P122B code?

A dirty air filter is unlikely to directly cause P122B, but it can contribute to airflow issues that may complicate the diagnosis of the intake air control system.

9. Is the P122B code related to the throttle body?

The P122B code is not directly related to the throttle body but rather to the intake air flow valve, which controls airflow into the engine.

10. Do I need special tools to fix the P122B code on my 2014 Chevrolet Silverado?

Basic tools like a multimeter and an OBDII scanner are typically sufficient for diagnosing and addressing the issue, but advanced repairs may require professional equipment.
