Code P1115 2000 Ford F150 Description

The IAT sensor is a thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature. The electrical resistance of a thermistor decreases as the temperature increases, and the resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides electrical signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to temperature.
Thermistor-type sensors are considered passive sensors. A passive sensor is connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow. Voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in a series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.
The IAT sensor provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information as a correction factor in the calculation of fuel, spark, and air flow.
The IAT sensor provides a quicker temperature change response time than the ECT or CHT sensor.
Currently there are 2 types of IAT sensors used, a stand alone, non-integrated type and an integrated type. Both types function the same, however the integrated type is incorporated into the mass air flow (MAF) sensor instead of being a stand-alone sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1115 2000 Ford F150 Code

What does the OBDII code P1115 mean on a 2000 Ford F150?

P1115 indicates an issue with the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 2 Circuit, specifically that the signal voltage is too high, suggesting a potential wiring or sensor fault.

What are the symptoms of code P1115 on a 2000 Ford F150?

Common symptoms include poor fuel efficiency, rough idling, reduced engine performance, and possibly an illuminated Check Engine Light.

What causes the P1115 code on a 2000 Ford F150?

Possible causes include a faulty IAT sensor, damaged or corroded wiring, a loose or disconnected sensor connector, or a malfunctioning Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

How can I diagnose the P1115 code on my 2000 Ford F150?

Inspect the IAT sensor and its wiring for damage or corrosion, check the connectors for secure connections, and test the sensor's resistance with a multimeter to confirm proper operation.

Can I drive my 2000 Ford F150 with the P1115 code?

While the truck may still be drivable, ignoring the P1115 code can lead to poor performance and fuel efficiency. It's best to address the issue promptly to avoid further complications.

How do I fix the P1115 code on a 2000 Ford F150?

Repair or replace the IAT sensor if faulty, clean or repair damaged wiring or connectors, and clear the code with an OBDII scanner after repairs.

Where is the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 located on a 2000 Ford F150?

The IAT Sensor 2 is typically located in the intake manifold or air intake tubing, depending on the engine configuration.

How much does it cost to fix the P1115 code on a 2000 Ford F150?

Costs vary depending on the issue. Replacing the IAT sensor typically costs between $50 and $150, including parts and labor. Wiring repairs may add to the cost.

Can a dirty air filter cause the P1115 code on a 2000 Ford F150?

A dirty air filter itself may not directly cause P1115, but it can affect airflow readings and engine performance, possibly contributing to sensor-related issues.

Will clearing the P1115 code solve the problem on my 2000 Ford F150?

Clearing the code will remove the Check Engine Light temporarily, but if the underlying issue isn't resolved, the code will likely return.
