Code P1114 1998 Ford F150 Description

The IAT sensor is a thermistor device in which resistance changes with temperature. The electrical resistance of a thermistor decreases as the temperature increases, and the resistance increases as the temperature decreases. The varying resistance affects the voltage drop across the sensor terminals and provides electrical signals to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) corresponding to temperature.
Thermistor-type sensors are considered passive sensors. A passive sensor is connected to a voltage divider network so that varying the resistance of the passive sensor causes a variation in total current flow. Voltage that is dropped across a fixed resistor in a series with the sensor resistor determines the voltage signal at the PCM. This voltage signal is equal to the reference voltage minus the voltage drop across the fixed resistor.
The IAT sensor provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information as a correction factor in the calculation of fuel, spark, and air flow.
The IAT sensor provides a quicker temperature change response time than the ECT or CHT sensor.
Currently there are 2 types of IAT sensors used, a stand alone, non-integrated type and an integrated type. Both types function the same, however the integrated type is incorporated into the mass air flow (MAF) sensor instead of being a stand-alone sensor.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1114 1998 Ford F150 Code

What does the OBDII code P1114 mean on a 1998 Ford F150?

P1114 indicates that the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 2 circuit is reading a voltage lower than expected, suggesting an issue with the sensor or its circuit.

What are the symptoms of a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

Symptoms may include poor engine performance, rough idling, reduced fuel efficiency, and possibly an illuminated check engine light.

What causes a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

Common causes include a faulty IAT sensor, damaged wiring or connectors, or a malfunctioning Engine Control Module (ECM).

How do you diagnose a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

Start by visually inspecting the IAT sensor and its wiring for damage. Use a multimeter to check the sensor’s resistance and voltage. Confirm the ECM is functioning properly if no wiring issues are found.

Can you drive with a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

While the vehicle may still be drivable, it’s not recommended as it can lead to poor fuel economy, performance issues, and potential long-term engine damage.

How do you fix a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

Repairs may include replacing the IAT sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring, or in rare cases, replacing the ECM.

Where is the Intake Air Temperature Sensor 2 located on a 1998 Ford F150?

The IAT Sensor 2 is typically located within or near the intake air duct or air filter housing. Consult the vehicle’s service manual for exact placement.

What tools are needed to fix a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

You’ll need a basic OBDII scanner, a multimeter, and possibly tools like pliers, screwdrivers, and replacement parts such as a new IAT sensor.

How much does it cost to fix a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

Repair costs vary but typically range between $50 and $200, depending on whether you replace the IAT sensor yourself or have a mechanic perform the repair.

Can a dirty air filter cause a P1114 code on a 1998 Ford F150?

While uncommon, a severely clogged air filter could affect the IAT sensor readings and contribute to the code. Always check and replace the air filter if necessary.
