Code P1049 2018 GMC Sierra Description

The Reductant Injector is a component of selective catalytic reduction system used to dose the reductant fluid to the exhaust gas and participate in the reduction reactions. The Engine Control Module (ECM) calculates the injection time of the reductant injector based on the measurement of the NOx sensors. To activate the injector the ECM supplies a PWM signal to the high control circuit and the low control circuit is always commanded ON. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the Reductant Control Module detects a short to voltage in the high control circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1049 2018 GMC Sierra Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1049 mean on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

P1049 indicates a high voltage issue in the Reductant Injector High Control Circuit, which is part of the diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) system used to reduce emissions.

2. What are the symptoms of a P1049 code on a GMC Sierra?

Common symptoms include the check engine light being illuminated, reduced engine power, poor fuel efficiency, or the DEF system malfunction warning.

3. What causes the P1049 code to appear on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Causes can include a faulty reductant injector, damaged wiring or connectors in the circuit, a defective reductant control module, or electrical issues such as short circuits or corrosion.

4. Can I still drive my 2018 GMC Sierra with a P1049 code?

While the truck may still operate, driving with this code can lead to reduced performance and potential long-term damage to the DEF system or emissions components.

5. How do you diagnose a P1049 code on a GMC Sierra?

Diagnosis typically involves scanning the vehicle for active codes, visually inspecting the reductant injector and wiring, testing circuit voltages, and checking the reductant control module for faults.

6. How do you fix the P1049 code on a 2018 GMC Sierra?

Repairs may involve replacing the reductant injector, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the reductant control module if necessary.

7. Is the P1049 code related to the DEF system on my GMC Sierra?

Yes, the P1049 code specifically pertains to the DEF system's reductant injector control circuit, which is crucial for proper emissions reduction.

8. How much does it cost to fix a P1049 code on a GMC Sierra?

Repair costs can vary, typically ranging from $150 for minor wiring repairs to over $600 if the reductant injector or control module needs replacement.

9. Can a P1049 code cause my 2018 GMC Sierra to fail an emissions test?

Yes, since the code is related to the emissions system, it can cause the vehicle to fail an emissions test until it is resolved.

10. Can I clear the P1049 code without fixing the issue?

Clearing the code without addressing the root cause will likely result in the code returning, as the system will detect the same fault again.
