Code P1039 Jeep Description

Multi-Air is an electronically controlled variable intake valve phase and lift system. Unlike conventional intake valve phase and lift system which controls all the cylinder intake valves simultaneously and in the same proportion; Multi-Air, through the use of an electronically controlled hydraulic link between the camshaft and intake valve, allows for each intake valve to be controlled independently. The valve lift and timing can be adjusted infinitely.
The Multi-Air valve train has a mechanical camshaft lobe acting on a hydraulic pump located between the camshaft intake lobe and the intake valve. The pump provides oil under pressure to a two-way electro-hydraulic solenoid valve called the Variable Valve Actuator (VVA) Solenoid. The VVA Solenoid is electronically controlled during the specific intake cam lobe event by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). During the event, the VVA Solenoid is commanded to either hold oil pressure or bleed oil. The Variable Valve Actuator (VVA) Solenoid is a normally open solenoid. The PCM provides 12 volts to close the solenoid. The position of the VVA Solenoid determines the intake valve timing and lift. This change on valve action is similar to creating a change in the camshaft lobe profile affecting the lift and duration of the valve opening. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the PCM detects a short to voltage in the Solenoid Signal or Return circuit.

Frequently Asked Questions about P1039 Jeep Code

1. What does the OBDII code P1039 mean on a Jeep?

P1039 indicates a "Cylinder 2 Oil Supply Solenoid Valve Driver Short To Battery," meaning there is an electrical issue with the oil supply solenoid valve for cylinder 2.

2. What are the symptoms of code P1039 in a Jeep?

Common symptoms include poor engine performance, misfires, rough idling, reduced fuel efficiency, or the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P1039 code on a Jeep?

Possible causes include a short circuit in the oil supply solenoid wiring, a faulty solenoid valve, damaged connectors, or issues in the engine control module (ECM).

4. Can I still drive my Jeep with a P1039 code?

Driving with a P1039 code is not recommended, as it can lead to further engine damage or reduced performance. Address the issue promptly.

5. How do I diagnose the P1039 code on a Jeep?

Start by inspecting the wiring and connectors for the cylinder 2 oil solenoid valve. Use a multimeter to check for short circuits, and test the solenoid valve for proper function.

6. How can the P1039 code be fixed?

Repairs may include replacing damaged wiring, fixing faulty connectors, replacing the oil supply solenoid valve, or reprogramming/upgrading the ECM if necessary.

7. How much does it cost to fix the P1039 code on a Jeep?

Repairs typically cost $100 to $300, depending on whether the issue involves wiring, the solenoid valve, or ECM repairs.

8. Can a dirty oil supply solenoid valve trigger the P1039 code?

Yes, debris or sludge in the solenoid valve can cause malfunctions, potentially triggering the code. Cleaning or replacing the valve may resolve the issue.

9. Will clearing the P1039 code solve the problem?

Clearing the code will turn off the check engine light temporarily, but the issue will persist unless the underlying problem is repaired.

10. Can low oil levels cause the P1039 code in a Jeep?

Low oil levels are unlikely to directly cause P1039, but maintaining proper oil levels and quality can help prevent solenoid-related issues.
