Code P0C8C 2014 GMC Sierra Description

Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensors are used to monitor the battery temperature. The non-serviceable battery temperature sensors are located within the battery sections. Two temperature sensors are located in each battery section. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the battery cell group. The hybrid/EV interface control module supplies 5 V to the signal circuit and is a ground for the low reference circuit. The battery temperature sensor resistance changes with battery temperature. As the temperature decreases, the sensor resistance increases. As the temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
Each Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module communicates the temperature sensor values to the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module via serial data.
The Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module uses the battery temperature sensors to determine the Hybrid/EV Battery Module temperature in order to control the battery cooling system operation.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the hybrid battery temperature sensor is intermittent or has changed by 10°C (18°F) or greater for 4 out of 5 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0C8C 2014 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P0C8C mean on a 2014 GMC Sierra?

The P0C8C code indicates an issue with the Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor 9 Circuit, specifically that the sensor is sending erratic signals to the vehicle’s control module.

What are the common symptoms of the P0C8C code?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, reduced hybrid or EV performance, erratic temperature readings, or limited battery charging and discharging functions.

What causes the P0C8C code to appear?

Common causes include a faulty temperature sensor, damaged or corroded wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, or a malfunctioning battery control module.

Can I drive my 2014 GMC Sierra with the P0C8C code?

Driving may be possible but is not recommended, as the issue could lead to reduced performance, overcharging, or overheating of the hybrid/EV battery pack.

How do I diagnose the P0C8C code?

Diagnosis involves checking the sensor and its wiring for damage, testing the sensor’s resistance, and using a scan tool to monitor temperature readings from the sensor.

How is the P0C8C code fixed?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty temperature sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the battery control module if necessary.

How much does it cost to fix the P0C8C code?

The repair cost varies, but replacing a temperature sensor typically ranges from $100 to $300, while more complex issues like wiring repairs or control module replacement may cost more.

Can a failing hybrid/EV battery cause the P0C8C code?

Yes, a failing battery may cause temperature sensor issues, but the sensor or its circuit is more likely the root cause.

Will clearing the P0C8C code fix the issue?

Clearing the code may turn off the warning temporarily, but the underlying issue must be repaired to prevent the code from returning.

Is the P0C8C code covered under warranty for a 2014 GMC Sierra?
