Code P0AEC GMC Description

Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensors are used to monitor the battery temperature. The non-serviceable battery temperature sensors are located within the battery sections. Two temperature sensors are located in each battery section. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the battery cell group. The hybrid/EV interface control module supplies 5 V to the signal circuit and is a ground for the low reference circuit. The battery temperature sensor resistance changes with battery temperature. As the temperature decreases, the sensor resistance increases. As the temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
Each Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module communicates the temperature sensor values to the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module via serial data.
The Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module uses the battery temperature sensors to determine the Hybrid/EV Battery Module temperature in order to control the battery cooling system operation.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the hybrid battery temperature sensor is intermittent or has changed by 10°C (18°F) or greater for 4 out of 5 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0AEC GMC Code

What does the OBDII code P0AEC mean on a GMC vehicle?

The P0AEC code indicates an issue with the Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor 4 Circuit, specifically erratic readings or performance.

What are the common symptoms of the P0AEC code?

Common symptoms include illumination of the check engine light, reduced hybrid or electric vehicle performance, and potential battery overheating or cooling issues.

What causes the P0AEC code to appear?

This code can be caused by a faulty temperature sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, or issues with the hybrid/EV battery control module.

Can I continue driving my GMC with the P0AEC code?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it may lead to improper battery temperature management and potential damage to the hybrid/EV system.

How do I diagnose the P0AEC code?

Start by inspecting the temperature sensor wiring and connectors for damage or corrosion, then use a scan tool to monitor sensor readings and test the circuit.

What tools are needed to fix the P0AEC code?

You may need a multimeter, an OBDII scan tool, and potentially replacement parts like a new temperature sensor or wiring components.

How much does it cost to repair the P0AEC code?

The cost can vary depending on the issue but typically ranges from $100 to $500, including diagnostics, parts, and labor.

Can a software update fix the P0AEC code?

In rare cases, a software update for the hybrid/EV control module may resolve the issue, but this is less common than physical repairs.

What happens if the P0AEC code is ignored?

Ignoring this code can lead to inefficient battery temperature regulation, reduced battery life, and potential safety risks.

Is replacing the hybrid/EV battery necessary to fix the P0AEC code?

Replacing the battery is usually not necessary unless the battery itself is damaged; the issue is typically isolated to the sensor or its circuit.
