Code P0AEC Chevrolet Description

Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensors are used to monitor the battery temperature. The non-serviceable battery temperature sensors are located within the battery sections. Two temperature sensors are located in each battery section. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the battery cell group. The hybrid/EV interface control module supplies 5 V to the signal circuit and is a ground for the low reference circuit. The battery temperature sensor resistance changes with battery temperature. As the temperature decreases, the sensor resistance increases. As the temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
Each Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module communicates the temperature sensor values to the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module via serial data.
The Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module uses the battery temperature sensors to determine the Hybrid/EV Battery Module temperature in order to control the battery cooling system operation.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the hybrid battery temperature sensor is intermittent or has changed by 10°C (18°F) or greater for 4 out of 5 seconds.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0AEC Chevrolet Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0AEC mean on a Chevrolet?

The P0AEC code indicates an issue with the Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor 4 Circuit, specifically that its readings are erratic or inconsistent.

2. What are the common symptoms of the P0AEC code?

Symptoms may include an illuminated check engine light, reduced hybrid/EV system performance, reduced fuel efficiency, or the vehicle entering a limp mode.

3. What causes the P0AEC code on a Chevrolet?

Common causes include a faulty battery temperature sensor, damaged sensor wiring or connectors, or issues with the hybrid/EV battery control module.

4. Can I drive with a P0AEC code on my Chevrolet?

Driving with this code is not recommended, as it may lead to reduced vehicle performance or potential damage to the hybrid/EV battery system.

5. How do you diagnose the P0AEC code?

Diagnosis involves scanning for additional codes, inspecting the battery temperature sensor wiring, testing the sensor's resistance, and verifying proper operation of the hybrid/EV battery control module.

6. How is the P0AEC code fixed?

Repairs may include replacing the faulty battery temperature sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, or reprogramming or replacing the battery control module.

7. How much does it cost to repair the P0AEC code?

Repair costs vary, but replacing a battery temperature sensor typically costs $150–$300, while more extensive repairs like control module replacement can cost significantly more.

8. Can a weak hybrid/EV battery cause the P0AEC code?

While a weak battery itself is not a direct cause, excessive heat or electrical issues stemming from an aging battery may contribute to sensor circuit problems.

9. Does the P0AEC code require a software update?

In some cases, a software update for the battery control module may resolve erratic sensor readings, but this depends on the specific vehicle and situation.

10. How can I prevent the P0AEC code from occurring?

Regularly inspect the hybrid/EV battery system, keep electrical connections clean and secure, and address any hybrid system warnings promptly to prevent sensor issues.
