Code P0AC6 Saturn Description

Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensors are used to monitor the battery temperature. The non-serviceable battery temperature sensors are located within the battery sections. Two temperature sensors are located in each battery section. The temperature sensor is a variable resistor that measures the temperature of the battery cell group. The hybrid/EV interface control module supplies 5 V to the signal circuit and is a ground for the low reference circuit. The battery temperature sensor resistance changes with battery temperature. As the temperature decreases, the sensor resistance increases. As the temperature increases, the sensor resistance decreases.
Each Hybrid/EV Battery Interface Control Module communicates the temperature sensor values to the Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module via serial data.
The Hybrid/EV Powertrain Control Module uses the battery temperature sensors to determine the Hybrid/EV Battery Module temperature in order to control the battery cooling system operation.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the difference between a single battery temperature sensor and an average of the other battery temperature sensors is greater than 25°C (45°F).

Frequently Asked Questions about P0AC6 Saturn Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0AC6 mean for a Saturn vehicle?

The P0AC6 code indicates a performance issue with Hybrid/EV Battery Temperature Sensor 2, meaning the sensor is not providing readings within the expected range.

2. What are the symptoms of a P0AC6 code in a Saturn?

Common symptoms include an illuminated check engine light, reduced hybrid system performance, limited driving range, or the hybrid system switching to backup modes.

3. What causes the P0AC6 code to appear?

Possible causes include a faulty battery temperature sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the sensor circuit, or issues with the hybrid battery management system.

4. Can a P0AC6 code cause drivability issues?

Yes, it can lead to reduced hybrid system performance, potential overheating of the battery pack, or the system entering a fail-safe mode to protect the vehicle.

5. How do you diagnose a P0AC6 code on a Saturn?

A technician will use a scan tool to check live data from the battery sensors, inspect the wiring and connectors for damage, and test the sensor for proper operation.

6. Can I drive my Saturn with a P0AC6 code?

While the vehicle may still operate, it’s not recommended to drive for long periods, as the hybrid system may not manage battery temperature properly, risking damage.

7. How is a P0AC6 code fixed on a Saturn?

Repairs may involve replacing the faulty temperature sensor, repairing damaged wiring or connectors, or recalibrating the hybrid control module.

8. Is the P0AC6 code specific to Saturn vehicles?

No, this code can appear on other hybrid or EV vehicles, but the repair process may vary depending on the make and model.

9. How much does it cost to repair a P0AC6 code in a Saturn?

The cost can vary widely, from $100 to $300 for sensor replacement, but it may be higher if additional wiring repairs or module reprogramming is required.

10. Can a faulty hybrid battery cause the P0AC6 code?

Yes, if the battery is overheating or has internal issues, it can cause the temperature sensor to read inaccurately, triggering the code.
