Code P0877 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Description

The Transmission Fluid Pressure (TFP) switch 4 is part of the Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Assembly which has no serviceable parts. The Transmission Control Module (TCM) supplies a signal circuit to the TFP switch 4. The TFP switch 4 has an internal case ground. TFP switch 4 is normally closed or LOW. When oil pressure is present at the TFP switch 4, the switch is open or HIGH. The normal LOW pressure control solenoid 5 controls pressure to the 1-2-3-4 clutch regulator valve. The TCM monitors the TFP switch 4 to determine the position of the 1-2-3-4 clutch regulator valve. When the 1-2-3-4 clutch is commanded OFF, pressure is present on the TFP switch 4. When the 1-2-3-4 clutch is commanded ON, the 1-2-3-4 clutch regulator valve moves and pressure to the TFP switch 4 is exhausted through the 1-2-3-4 clutch regulator valve. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the TCM detects that the TFP switch 4 signal voltage remains LOW after the 1-2-3-4 clutch transitions from a HIGH pressure state to a LOW pressure state. The TCM counts each incident. The DTC sets when 5 counts are accumulated.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0877 2015 Chevrolet Silverado Code

1. What does the OBDII code P0877 mean on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

P0877 indicates a "Transmission Fluid Pressure Switch 4 Circuit Low Voltage," meaning the transmission control module (TCM) has detected low voltage in the pressure switch 4 circuit.

2. What are the common symptoms of a P0877 code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Symptoms may include erratic shifting, the transmission staying in one gear (limp mode), decreased fuel efficiency, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0877 code to appear on a 2015 Chevy Silverado?

Common causes include low transmission fluid, a faulty transmission fluid pressure switch, damaged wiring or connectors in the pressure switch circuit, or a failing transmission control module (TCM).

4. Can low transmission fluid cause the P0877 code?

Yes, low or contaminated transmission fluid can cause insufficient pressure, leading to the P0877 code.

5. How do you diagnose the P0877 code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Diagnosis involves checking the transmission fluid level and condition, inspecting the wiring and connectors for damage, and testing the transmission fluid pressure switch and related circuits with a multimeter.

6. Can you drive with a P0877 code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Driving with this code is not recommended as it can lead to further transmission damage and potential safety issues due to erratic shifting or limp mode.

7. How do you fix the P0877 code on a 2015 Chevy Silverado?

Repairs may include topping off or replacing transmission fluid, repairing or replacing damaged wiring or connectors, replacing the faulty transmission fluid pressure switch, or reprogramming/replacing the TCM.

8. How much does it cost to fix a P0877 code on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Repair costs vary depending on the issue but can range from $100 for a fluid change to $300-$700 for sensor or wiring repairs. TCM replacement may cost $500-$1,000 or more.

9. Can a bad transmission fluid pressure switch cause other problems?

Yes, a faulty pressure switch can lead to incorrect transmission pressure readings, causing poor performance, erratic shifting, and potential transmission damage over time.

10. Is it necessary to clear the P0877 code after repairs on a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado?

Yes, after completing repairs, the code should be cleared with an OBDII scanner, and a test drive should be performed to ensure the issue is resolved.
