Code P0848 2015 GMC Sierra Description

The transmission fluid pressure switch, also known as the pressure switch manifold, is a multiple switch assembly made up of 3 normally open pressure switches and 1 normally closed pressure switch. Pressure switch 1 monitors shift valve 1 positioning, pressure switch 2 monitors shift valve 2 positioning, pressure switch 3 monitors shift valve 3 positioning, and pressure switch 4 monitors the position of the manual selector valve. The TCM provides a signal circuit to each of the pressure switches. The TCM constantly monitors the circuits to determine the position of the shift valves. The position of shift valves 1, 2, and 3 is controlled by 3 normally closed shift solenoids. When energized, shift solenoid 1 directs fluid pressure to shift valve 1, shift solenoid 2 directs fluid pressure to shift valve 2, and shift solenoid 3 directs fluid pressure to shift valve 3, which strokes the shift valves. When a shift valve is stroked, an exhaust passage is blocked and fluid pressure increases, closing the normally open pressure switch. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the TCM detects that transmission fluid pressure switch 2 signal circuit is High when shift solenoid 2  is commanded ON for 1 s.

Frequently Asked Questions about P0848 2015 GMC Sierra Code

What does the OBDII code P0848 mean for a 2015 GMC Sierra?

The code P0848 indicates a high voltage issue in the transmission fluid pressure switch 2 circuit, which monitors hydraulic pressure in the transmission.

What are the common symptoms of a P0848 code in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Symptoms may include harsh or delayed shifting, transmission slipping, erratic gear changes, or the transmission being stuck in one gear.

What causes the P0848 code in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Possible causes include a faulty transmission fluid pressure sensor, damaged wiring or connectors in the pressure switch circuit, or issues with the transmission control module (TCM).

Can driving with a P0848 code damage my 2015 GMC Sierra?

Yes, prolonged driving with this code can lead to further transmission issues or damage due to improper hydraulic pressure regulation.

How do you diagnose the P0848 code in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Diagnosis involves using an OBDII scanner, inspecting wiring and connectors, testing the transmission fluid pressure sensor, and checking the TCM for faults.

Does the P0848 code require replacing the transmission fluid pressure sensor?

Not always; the issue could stem from wiring or connectors. Replace the sensor only if testing confirms it’s faulty.

Can low transmission fluid cause the P0848 code?

Low transmission fluid can indirectly cause pressure-related issues, but the code specifically refers to an electrical circuit problem.

How much does it cost to fix a P0848 code in a 2015 GMC Sierra?

Repair costs vary but may range from $150 to $500, depending on whether the sensor, wiring, or other components need replacement.

Is the P0848 code a common issue in the 2015 GMC Sierra?

While not extremely common, this code can occur in vehicles with high mileage or poor maintenance of the transmission system.

Can a faulty transmission control module (TCM) trigger the P0848 code?

Yes, a malfunctioning TCM can lead to high voltage readings in the pressure switch circuit and cause this code.
