Code P0744 2004 Infiniti G35 Description

The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4, by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the vehicle speed and the Engine Control Module (ECM). Lock-up piston operation will then be controlled. When the torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, the torque converter lockup clutch will engage creating a 1 to 1 RPM ratio between the transmission input shaft and the rotational speed of the torque converter.
The lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2/8) in lock-up conditions, the engine speed should not change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0744 is detected when A/T cannot perform lock-up even if the electrical circuit is good.

1. What does the OBDII code P0744 mean on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

P0744 indicates an intermittent issue in the torque converter clutch (TCC) circuit, meaning the transmission is having trouble locking or unlocking the torque converter as needed.

2. What are the common symptoms of code P0744 in a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Common symptoms include transmission slipping, poor fuel economy, shuddering at certain speeds, difficulty shifting gears, and the check engine light being illuminated.

3. What causes the P0744 code in a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Possible causes include a faulty torque converter clutch solenoid, low or dirty transmission fluid, damaged wiring or connectors in the TCC circuit, or internal transmission issues.

4. Can driving with a P0744 code damage my 2004 Infiniti G35?

Yes, prolonged driving with this issue can cause further transmission damage, reduced fuel efficiency, and increased wear on the torque converter.

5. How can I fix the P0744 code on my 2004 Infiniti G35?

Start by checking and replacing the transmission fluid if it’s dirty or low. Inspect the wiring and connectors in the TCC circuit for damage. If the issue persists, the torque converter clutch solenoid or transmission itself may require repair or replacement.

6. How much does it typically cost to fix a P0744 code on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Repair costs vary but can range from $150 to $400 for a solenoid replacement and up to $2,500 or more if a full transmission rebuild is required.

7. Can dirty or low transmission fluid cause code P0744 in a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Yes, dirty or low transmission fluid can prevent the torque converter clutch from operating properly, leading to the P0744 code.

8. How do I know if the torque converter clutch solenoid is faulty in my 2004 Infiniti G35?

A faulty solenoid may cause irregular shifting, slipping transmission, or a failure to lock the torque converter, which can trigger the P0744 code.

9. Do I need to replace the entire transmission if I get the P0744 code on my 2004 Infiniti G35?

Not necessarily. The issue could be related to the solenoid, fluid, or wiring. However, if the transmission has significant internal damage, replacement or rebuilding may be required.

10. Can a bad torque converter cause the P0744 code on a 2004 Infiniti G35?

Yes, a failing torque converter can cause issues with the TCC circuit, leading to the P0744 code. This may require torque converter replacement.
