Code P0741 GMC Description

The Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) pressure control solenoid is part of the control solenoid valve assembly which has no serviceable parts. The TCC pressure control solenoid is a normally low-pressure control solenoid. The TCC pressure control solenoid regulates the transmission fluid to the TCC regulator valve in the lower valve body and the TCC control valve in the pump cover. When vehicle operating conditions are appropriate to apply the converter clutch, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) will increase TCC pressure control current flow (duty cycle) to the TCC solenoid. The TCC pressure control solenoid directs fluid pressure to move the TCC control valve to the apply position and moves the TCC regulator apply valve to the regulating position. The TCC regulator valve regulates TCC apply fluid pressure proportional to TCC solenoid pressure. When the TCC is fully applied, the engine is coupled directly to the transmission. TCC release is accomplished by the Transmission Control Module decreasing current flow to the TCC pressure control solenoid. This results in decreasing the applied pressure which allows the TCC control valve to move to the release position. The Transmission Control Module calculates torque converter slip speed based on engine speed and transmission input shaft speed.
The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when the TCC Pressure is greater than 750 Kpa (109 PSI) for 6 s.

  • Hi I have a 2002 gmc sierra 2500 hd 6.0l gas and i have 5 codes:p0719 torque convertor switch,p0741 tcc circuit, p1870 tranny component slipping, p0327 knock sensor,p0332 knock sensor 2. I tries to clean my connectors on the tranny but the bigger one on the driverside wont come out it has 2 connectors i go through the car wash alot in the winter so i think that has alot to do with it. any suggestions thanks

  • Something odd going on from last couple days.. as soon start to drive from 0 to 5 mph, it jumps one time (like someone hit the car from behind), no other issue noticed in driving or anything.

    Checked transmission fluid, it shows more than full level of hot(after driving 30 minutes, so hot for sure), engine oil is close to low level.(will change oil in couple days)

    check engine light came on couple days back, before this issue started.

    code p0741 (TCC performance/ struck position) , but went away yesterday and didn't come back.

    any remedy can be done to prevent or its already too late, and needs new transmission or is it misfire something else?

    also do i have to go to GMC Service station or can relay on local shops to find the root cause ?

    Did you check the fluid with the engine running?

    I recommend starting by checking the transmission pan for debris, as the bulleting recommends. Any reputable repair shop should be able to do that without any problems.

  • Checked fluid, while vehicle was on/running. it showed full level but dirty(brown)

    showed it at the transmission shop, they test drove it and said trans is loosing presser, could be bad pump or leaking hydrolic pressure somehow.

    suggested to rebuild, as it cant be checked /fixed just by removing pan (is it true ?)

  • Get a second opinion from another shop. If possible, get the second opinion from a shop that specialize on transmissions, not a general repair shop.

    Most functions can be checked on the transmission, even without removing the transmission pan. There are pressure ports on the transmission to check the fluid pressure.

  • Thanks for your suggestions, so far i showed to two transmission specialist shops

    they found that transmission will hit when engaging into first gear, randomly slips on gears.

    however it runs fine first 30 miles or so, and above behavior starts after that , maybe when oil temp reaches at certain level.

    I asked them to see by opening pan and send pics, but they both said for this issue they need to rebuild.
