95% of the time this code will mean AT LEAST a new torque converter is needed. BMW tranny fluid and a seal on the torque converter do not play nicely with each other and as a result, the seal deteriorates and allows fluid thru. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL, BUT GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. So when fluid gets the call to go here or there, TC solenoid and what not, it does not really get to make it there because the leaking seal prevents it from happening. As a result, the TC stays locked or unlocked due to BMW allowing a inferior cheap seal to be used on the torque converter. A $3 part becomes a $1,000 shop bill.
